Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

We stayed one night at the start of Carnival in February. We missed the street as it was blocked off by police for the evening water parade, but once we found it all was well. The hotel room was very clean and modern. The shower was great. The bed was very comfortable. The room

Clean, nice, continent place on the quiet street right by the railway station. Good breakfast on the sunny patio. Service is great, people in the hotel are very nice. The good idea was to provide a mobile phone with a local sim (kids loved it a lot).

This hotel is quietly tucked in one of the side streets of Venice, yet easyly reacheble from the bus and train station. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating from the first phone call. The room is functional and elegant at the same time, with a very comfortable bed.

First impressions are of a really nice inviting hotel. Decor is quite stunning and we were pleased with our room which we knew was going to be quite compact. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and we had a lovely en suite with a spacious shower cubicle. The one thing we

Hello.. You definitely should take the water bus to St. Marks although if you like a very nice and very long walk you can give that a try as well. I wanted to but last month(Sept.) when my wife and I were there, it was super hot. The water bus station is super close to the hotel. As far as "touristie" as you said, everywhere is pretty much that but to the hotel's credit, its tucked away to the point where you're not affected. There are nice restaurants, eateries, grocery etc. close by. Great places to get gelato for five euro. You really can't go wrong with this hotel and location. Yes, the main benefit is its very close location to the train station but if you enjoy exploring, put on some comfortable shoes and walk in any direction. I recommend walking across the bridge and into the areas where the locals are. Some nice restaurants there but definitely take advantage of the water bus aka Vaporetto. You'll probably find other stops that you'll want to get off at besides the St. Marks Square. Just thinking about it makes me wish to go back! Enjoy!

It will be about an 800 meter walk, but on cobblerstreet, so not easy. However if you are interested, there are people willing to put your luggage on a sort of platform on wheels and walk with you to you hotel for a price. There was an elevator and the reception took our luggages upstrairs for us. The elevator is just not very fast.

You take the taxi to Piazza Roma. Then walk over the large bridge over the canal to train station. Continue going same direction passed the train station take the second left (Calle Priuli dei Cavaletti). The hotel is couple minuets walk down the street on your right. The whole trip from Piazza Roma to hotel will take less than 10 minutes.
