I stayed here 9 years ago and I stayed here AGAIN 9 years later on 31Oct to 3Nov. Why you ask, because of the LOCATION. In Venice, where moving around the city usually requires walking (with many many bridges to cross) or taking slow, expensive, and often crowded water buses. So it makes perfect sense to stay near the train...

It was a very nice hotel, good location if you have to take the train. I didn't have the chance to have the breakfast because my train was too early. The staff was very nice too. There are several places to eat nearby

The Alpina is located down a side street, next to the St Lucia train station. Its a very clean and friendly hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and the on suite bathroom is a very good size. There is a good priced drinks machine in the lobby. Breakfast is continental with a great selection. Nearly didn`t book this hotel due...

This hotel is located just on the lane beside Santa Lucia Station and is very convenient to reach from the station. Rooms are nice and clean, reception staff are a bit cold. We had a room with shared bathroom, the bathroom was clean all the time and had a lock and key so that can be used by two rooms...

This place is about 5 mins walk from the train station. We stayed there for 2 days during the last week of Oct. The hotel is located in a back alley where there are some restaurants and plenty of other hotels. We booked the shared bathroom choice as that was the only option left. So we were given room #66...

Just round the corner from the train station and easy to find, it's not a road or street as we'd think of in the UK but more like an alley with other hotels and small restaurants. Clean comfortable room and friendly staff.

Hotel is very close to the train station, only a few minutes walk which is great. It is a great base for exploring Venice. Rooms are simple and dated and smelled musty. We chose a double room with a shared bathroom. Double bed is actually two single beds put together. Shared bathroom and toilet are ok. Sink in the hotel...

We picked this hotel due to it being within a few minutes walking distance from the train station and we're so thankful that we did! From the hotel, we walked over to the grand canal and to one of the many bridges that linked us to the many shops, cafes, and attractions. The hotel itself was heavily decorated but was...

The hotel is very handily located for transport links in and out of Venice and very near the grand canal. Plenty of excellent local amenities nearby with easy access to water bus stops. Within reasonable walking distance of the main attractions. Staff in the hotel are friendly and helpful with the reception desk being manned 24 hours. The room itself...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
