I was coming off a cruise. I was staying on the ship but went by to make sure I could find the hotel before I went searching with all my luggage. I went to the front desk (small lobby with really cramped seating for breakfast) gave my name and the man told me that I was not due yet and...

Let's be clear. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's near San Marco square without being "too near". Although a little expensive for the services they provide (see below) it's not so much when you compare the prices with other hotels in Venice. Regarding the bad things I'll make a small list: - rooms need an urgent...

We stayed 3 nights before a cruise. The room was quite small but certainly adequate as we were only there for sleeping. It is located right behind San Marco and very close to the vaporetto. The young man on the front desk spoke English and was very, very helpful with directions. The breakfast is included in the sister hotel across...

Venice is such a beautiful place to visit, however brexit has made it very expensive to stay. We stayed in the hotel Diana which is fairly ordinary, a bit dated but central. The breakfast is served across from the hotel in the padana sister hotel. The breakfast room was small and crowded and was not the most relaxed breakfast we've...

Rooms are ornately decorated, but clean. Had a problem in one room which was attended to immeditely. Breakfast was great.

The staff were professional - they let us into our room early which is always appreciated when you are travelling (thus the fourth star) :) The room was tiny and the beds were uncomfortable....but you can't beat the location! We had a quadruple and the four single beds were the exact width of the room with 4 inches to spare...

The hotel was easy to find and a short distance Piazza san Marco. We checked in with a friendly, cheery young man who spoke excellent English. The hotel is quaint and linked to the hotel literally across the street where we had breakfast, simple continental, bread, cheese, salami, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, toast. The room was clean and pleasant, but the...

Stayed here for just two nights before going on a cruise. I was especially happy with the situation of the hotel which is just off the Piazza San Marco, within easy reach of the vaporettos and best of all no bridges to cross with a suitcase. The room was quite dark and small and of course faced a wall, such a...

When we arrived the lady at the reception was the most unwelcoming we have experienced. She very clearly did not want to be there at all. She did not give us any information about the hotel or the local area, just gave us the room key and asked for payment up front. After we checked in I went back down...

Our welcome to this hotel was absolutely abysmal, the female desk clerk was one of the rudest persons I've had the unfortunate pleasure to meet. The first thing thing was a demand for payment for our stay, not even a hello how are you. She didn't even explain where and when breakfast was, my wife had to ask, at which...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
