This is hostel, but you can reserve a room for 2 people with a bathroom inside. The location is perfect, 3-4 minutes walk to San Marcos square. The supermarket (water, snacks) is a minute away, same is for a fruit stand on Campo Maria Formosa, Peter Pan Hole in a wall (goog kebabs for 3 €), everything is very close...

A unique stay... We were looking for a convienient, budget friendly, stay for a quick stop over in Venice. Foresteria Valdese fit our budget and we liked that it was a Methodist run organization---rare to find in Italy. We booked a private room with a shared bathroom--- it's set up like a hostel with a shared kitchen area but it's...

The Valdese considers itself a hostel or budget hotel yet the prices are too expensive for such a classification. I had requested two twin beds. They were pushed together, maybe one inch separation, and one was pushed almost flush against the wall. A plus: the bathroom had updated plumbing fixtures and was clean. Some may consider palazzos as elegant decay;...

Very sorry about the fire alarm going on during the night: unfortunetely you were with us when a group of people were smoking around the building and the alarm was alerting the danger. Our Palace has been built in the 17th century and we are taking care as much as we can of it (frescoes included), Venice is very ancient...

My husband and I did a lot of research trying to find a hotel/ guesthouse in Venice for a week in May at a reasonable cost. We ended up staying here and were glad we did. The location is great, a 5 minute walk to St Marks square and the Rialto bridge. It was a bit daunting finding it initially....

really enjoyed our few days here. beautiful a city as venice is, it is unquestionably expensive, and for a budget place to stay you could do a lot worse than this. it's nothing special, it's nothing exotic, but it has a lovely atmosphere, food's not bad, and you can save money to allow you to spend more on attractions.

According to the price rate, It's not bad with the service, room, atmosphere and breakfast. If you don't mind about the room arrangement and service, I think it's quite reasonable price. Moreover, the hotel was decorated in good style. There are piano and many old books for tourism in dinning room. For me, it's impressive.

We enjoyed our stay here because it turned out to be a great location, offering easy and interesting walks to San Marco, the Arsenale, the Ghetto, and the various wonders of Venice. It is true that it is not run like a Viennese five star hotel, but given the price, the location, and the very lovely rooms, I don't know...

Stayed here because we wanted an authentic "Venezia" experience. Booked a canal room which was quirky & had charm but very run down. Breakfast in the large common room was pretty poor - only packeted fare. Quite difficult to find & seemed to cater for large school groups in the 'dorm' accomodation sections. Front desk staff not very helpful &...

As rated in Fodor's, this place was very nice, and we felt that we were getting a good deal. Be aware, that the reception is not always open, so check their times on their website in advance. The place had a lot of teenage students in a group when we were there, but it was a good natured group. We...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Foresteria Valdese is one of the guest houses of the Waldensian and Methodist Church in Italy. We are a non-profit making guest house: our mission is to create value to our customers and the income is used to fund and sustain social projects in Italy and in the world for youth and elderly people. The house is just few minutes away from St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge. It offers to its guests a warm and welcoming environment in a typical eighteenth century palace and it is a perfect starting point to visit such a magic city as Venice is. The Foresteria offers bed and breakfast accommodation for singles, couples, families and groups. No AC, we have fans in the rooms. Some rooms are with canal view and some are decorated with frescoes. We have bedrooms for 2/3/4 people and family rooms for 6/8/9 people. They all have either ensuite or private bathrooms. Breakfast hall is also available for your own picnic, you can use 2 fridges and 1 microwave. Concert hall is also available for conferences. Every 5 days we change the linen. Some rooms have TV, and there is a TV in 2nd floor near the children corner. Hairdryer and other accessories are available in reception. ... more   less
