It is hard to know what to say about this hotel. It is very centrally located - 3 mins from St Mark's Square and the Doge's palace - and easy for the Zecharria vaperetto (canal bus) stop. We checked in and were given a room on the 4th floor - a lift to the 3rd and a walk up to...

Apart from the fantastic location of this hotel, I am very disappointed to say that I would struggle to find a reason to stay here again. Stayed in 6 hotels in 3 weeks whilst visiting Italy and this was the only one we had a problem with, such a shame in such a wonderful city. Met 4 members of reception...

You cannot beat the location. From the airport we walked off the water coach and were at the doorstep of Commercio & Pellegrino within a minute. They are located off the main walkway just off St. Marks Square in a small alley. Our room opened up onto the alley which was fun during the day though noisy at night. Room...

We visited Venice the week before Easter and found this little hotel on the Jet2 holiday website. The price was very good and the location is simply wonderful. The hotel itself is down a small alley (which is well populated with shops etc) and next to a main waterbus stop. It is literally a three minute walk to St Marks...

I had no idea what Venice would be like, but had always wanted to visit it, as few places are thought of as being more romantic. This hotel is extremely close to San Marco Square, home of the Basilica San Marco, which is probably one of the most popular tourist attractions in Venice, and a very short walk from the...

I chose this hotel for its amazing location and the great price. It is a little on the older side, but it is clean and the staff is friendly. The hotel even uses old fashioned keys! not key cards. I stayed her with my mom on my spring break (which was in february) and turns out it was one of...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
