Stayed a night at this hotel which has a great bar at the ground floor. The rooms are rather small but the location is great. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast simple yet filling.

We picked up the Alilaguna water bus at Marco Polo airport, and it dropped us literally in front of the Hotel Paganelli at the San Zaccaria stop. We were only in Venice overnight before departing on a cruise, and since we had limited time, looked for a hotel close to transportation and some of the sights. The Paganelli was a... More

We stayed for 3 nights and were very happy with the Hotel Paganelli. Right by the waterbus stops and close to St Mark's Square. The front desk personal were very helpful. Breakfast was very good. Room was modern and clean. The only down side was they turn off the A/C at the end of Sept. so the room was a... More

Easy to find on the front in Castello. We were in the annex which is fine - really big bathroom and big drop shower - really liked that. Could hear the bar noise a bit but we don't mind a bit of music. Breakfast was best of our trip as it had scrambled egg as well as the normal bakery... More

We where not sure what to expect but we where more than suprised, we where welcomed very nicely and shown the room and questions where answered. The newly done rooms where great much better than a uk 3 star but they do not do tea or coffee in the room but you have a fridge witch is a great help.... More

Since our arrival the personal were very kind, the room was great!! With everything you needed, the hotel itself is little but has a great location for visiting Venice, it is near Piazza San Marco, and it is in front of a public transportation service!

We stayed at the Paganelli for 3nights ,the location could not be better, it is right on the front and only minutes away from St Marco square . The journey from the airport takes about 90mins on the public waterbus which you can catch straight from the airport. Our journey was a bit of a trial because it was dark... More

We were looking for a place near the main tourist attractions so this worked for us perfectly. Its not just close to St. Marks square, the San Zaccharia Vaporetto stop is just opposite the hotel and that is really convenient. If you want to see a more beautiful side of San Marco, get out early before the crowds arrive. And... More

Just got back from a faultless five night stay. We were lucky enough to get room 206 with two huge windows overlooking the lagoon. I genuinely looked forward to returning to the room at the end of each day, the view and location were in my opinion the best you could ask for in Venice without paying a ridiculous price.... More

Great location! Right on the Grand Canal. Easy access to St. Mark's square and water taxi stops. A gondola location was very close to the hotel. Room was small but clean. Our room (room 201) even had a balcony that overlooked a courtyard. Excellent breakfast and good wifi throughout the hotel. The front desk folks were the best! They were... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
