My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Bernardi for three nights. The location, while not in the center of town, is still convenient to several different vaporetto stops and, if you don't mind walking, isn't that far from several of the key sights. The room itself was sufficient, and the bathroom very clean. There was not too much noise...

We stayed at this hotel July of 2007, and found it to be just fine. It was a little tricky finding it, but we somehow figured it out. It was tucked away but very close to the mail walkways and easy access to everything. Venice is a walking city, so anyplace you stay you'll just walk there anyway. There's a...

Definitely give this hotel a miss if you can. We booked well in advance for 2 nights only and when we arrived we were told we would have to move rooms for each night. We were put in the "annex" for the first night. When we entered the room the smell of plug in deoderisers was overwhelming. After we switched...

We selected this hotel for the best value and good location. The room was clean and comfortable. We didn't stay at the main hotel, we were taken to another location that is also operated by the hotel which was about one block away. We were pleased with the safety of the area, the neighborhood was quiet, and it was close...

We stayed at the Hotel Bernardi for 4 nights. We had a double room with shared bathroom and found both our bedroom and bathroom spotless. The hotel is in a fantastic location, within walking distance of the train station and a short distance to the Rialto Bridge and many other sights in Venice. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and...

I was in Europe for two weeks traveling through many cities and my favorite hotel was the Bernardi Semenzato. The rooms are spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and the perfect temperature for the summer...nice and cool. The hotel is in a centralized location and the staff is extremely accommodating and helpful. They even overnighted my drivers license which I forgot upon...

Simply put, Hotel Bernardi is a great little hotel. With its very convenient location next to the Ca D'Or, it offers and delivers everything a visitor to Venice could hope for. We found this little gem of a hotel purely by chance while surfing on the internet, and we were surely glad we did. The owners are very friendly, the...

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights at the Hotel Bernardi. We booked a double with a shared bathroom. I was a little apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect especially sharing a bathroom with other people. However, our stay was more than adequate. We were sent directions on how to get to the hotel which were easy...

I've traveled extensively and this modest hotel in Venice ranks the highest I've ever seen in value or price paid. Clean, good location, accommodating reception. I booked a single, shared bath room in July knowing my room didn't have air conditioning. However there was a good fan in the room and even with hot days, I was able to sleep...

Although we didn't encounter bed bugs I have to say that this hotel is less than clean. In one room there was rubbish in the bin from the previous occupant, another room had a used band aid stuck to the bedspread and in another room the cleaners missed a row of the previous occupants underwear drying on the radiator. Rooms...

Completely false and absurd!!! The first time I read it, i thought: "oh my God, is that one of E.A. Poe's short stories? what a fantasy!" Yes, because our rooms are very clean and comfortable and i simply can't believe my eyes when someone "dit des bêtises"! I, the owner, check the rooms in person everyday, therefore who wrote that...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
