My husband and I stayed nearly a week at the Belle Arti - in the core of the academic centre of Venice. The hotel is a wonderful surprise -just off the waterbus stop from the airport and right next door to the centre in which our conference was held. A short but lovely walk of some fifteen minutes gets you...

The hotel has a lovely garden and outside area which we loved. We enjoyed our stay but would not return. The standard rooms are very very small, even for Venice and quite dark. We were given a room on the first floor which was horrible (although it did have a view of the garden which was nice) so went back...

I will spell it out for you; I am an Airline Pilot that owns a Travel Agency. I have stayed in easily over 5000 hotel rooms in all classes in all parts of the world. This was the worst. The worst in terms of size - even for European standards, and by FAR the worst is service. The room barley...

Unbelievably cramped room, rude staff, WAY overpriced. Booked 3 nights but leaving after one. Writing this review from our shoebox room. Horrible.

In fairness we did not stay at this hotel but we did get to deal with the staff on two occasions. After a problem with the B&B we initially booked the owner of that establishment took it upon himself to book us a hotel at a place called Domus Cavanis. Domus Cavanis is run by the same people who run...

We stayed for 2 nights in this hotel before the cruise. I must say I loved almost everything: wonderful location (close to vaporetto station and nice to explore Dorsoduro and San Marco), friendly stuff, the room (we had the corner room in the main building), finally convenient shower when you won't flood the whole bathroom. Also the breakfast in my...

Good location near the Accademia water bus stop. Found the staff friendly. Air conditioning was put on in our room when we arrived which was a relief as it was very hot when we were there. Room clean. Bit dark because of the decor {dark red and cream} The shutters were down when we got to the room, but found the...

On our last trip to Venice in 2008 we walked past this hotel and made a note for future reference because we liked the appearance and location. We went back to the city last week for 4 nights having booked this hotel in September but were concerned about some of the poor reviews on TA. We need not have worried...

The hotel is in a great location, situated less than 20m from the sea shore, very close walking distance to San Marco Square, but still a step away from the crowd. It is in a quiet artistic neighbourhood (many galleries, the museam of Peggy Gugenheim etc). There is a Billa supermarket very close to the hotel for those that want...

Our family of six adults stayed at this completely average hotel for three nights in January. The main reason we chose this hotel was the location: the Dorsoduro is charming, quiet, near the Zattere, and has some of the best museums in the city (Accademia, Peggy Guggenheim, Ca'Rezzonico). Also, it's a fifteen-minute walk from St. Mark's Square, VERY close to...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
