We were actually three Latvians staying in this hotel for 3 nights, using one double room and one single room, and really enjoyed the time. Finding the hotel is not as easy as if it faced Riva degli Schiavoni or Via Garibaldi, or any large open place. It is located on a narrow street; to reach it you need to...

Overall the stay was good, great location to see Venice. The hotel has a main lobby where breakfast is served (which was very good), but the rooms are old apartments nearby. There was some construction going on at the time, so there was some noise in the morning/during the day. The room we stayed in was on the top floor,...

We recently stayed at Hotel Al Piave for 3 mights. The hotel is situated close enough to the main sight of venice e.g. Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge, but in a quiet area with a few shops and restaurants, where the hustle and bustle is not present. We had 2 rooms that shared a bathroom. They were spotless...

Many thanks to Tripadvisor reviewers for your comments about Hotel Al Piave - we chose this hotel for our first visit to Venice and we were very happy. Very friendly staff, very helpful. For the price Hotel Al Piave is elegant and a great deal. The fragrance of the fresh flowers at the front desk is a lovely touch. Our...

I have stayed at the Hotel al Piave twice in the past four months: once in a double room with my 79 year old mother, and most recently in a triple room with husband and teenage son. The location is very convenient to St Mark's Square and also to the Rialto Bridge. Although Venice is very small and walkable, hotel...

We recently stayed at Hotel Al Piave for 5 nights. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. Claudio at the front desk answered any questions we had. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and when we arrived in our room there was a lovely bottle of prosecco on ice with 2 flutes. Such a nice gesture!! We stayed...

Stayed here on second to last night of our honeymoon. Super nice people running the hotel. Ask if we needed directions to any sites, were super courteous... Breakfast was pretty good. The room was great! Bigger than expected, super clean, and very charming. Would definitely stay here again when we come back.

My husband and I arrived around sunset so as we were walking to the hotel it started to get dark. Venice streets are confusing they are like a maze but this hotel is not far from where the airport bus let's you off. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and spacious. We had...

About 5 minutes walk from the airport boat and 5 minutes from St Marks Square this hotel exceeded my expectations. It had airconditioning (a must in humid Venice), a better than average breakfast and excellent front desk. The chap at front was very helpful and has a very good manner. The only negative is a lack of lift which (through...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
