This was my third or maybe fourth stay at Hotel al Piave. It is my hotel of choice in Venice. When my travel companion and I reached Venice, I knew I would be seeking assistance to find a doctor; they provided the info on how to go about that. I went to the ER that afternoon and returned that evening...

Beautiful room. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with option to dine outdoors. Friendly staff. Within walking distance to many areas of interest. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Short walk to and from water taxis.

This is a lovely quaint Venetian hotel. The bed and, bathroom were comfortable but the room was not spacious (mind you i was aware of this when i booked). If you need space them just check room size before booking. The breakfast was the highlight - yummy pastries, croissants, eggs and great coffee - all freshly made.

This was our 4th time in Venice and the 3rd time at this hotel, from booking to checking out and everything in between it was just great. The location is superb, far enough away from St Marks square to be quite, but close enough (5 min walk) if you felt the need to go. The staff were very helpful and...

Stayed here for three nights on a travel book recommendation and was not disappointed. The hotel is a quick walk from the San Zaccaria Vaporetto/Alilaguna stop. The rooms are clean, ours was quite spacious, and the staff is very helpful. The breakfast offers a nice variety and the service is very attentive. This location is central to the historic district,...

This small hotel is a gem and the sort of place you actually want to keep secret before the noisy tourist brigade find out about it, but thought I should nevertheless write a review to thank the owners. For those who like to feel as if they are off the beaten track - if there is such a thing in...

This hotel was a delight to stay in. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the staff more than helpful with a good command of English. The location is also a major plus as it sits halfway between the Rialto bridge and St Marks square, two of Venice's major attractions. Breakfast was excellent with a large choice of appetising dishes. Staff...

I took my daughter and two teenage granddaughters on a cruise of the Mediterranean and stayed here 1 night before and two nights after the cruise. The hotel has beautiful Old World charm with modern amenities. Thank goodness for the reliable AC and WiFi! We had some difficulties with our flight from Germany and did not arrive until 4am instead...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
