We have stayed for 2 nights in August. The location and room was ok but there is no air-condition. In the summer Venice is very very hot and extremely humid, I cannot sleep at first night. There is a fan but not enough. It is a value for money accomodation but if I visit Venice again I won't go in...

I am traveling around Europe with two children so it is very important that places we stay in are clean, friendly and quiet. This hotel was all three and amazingly well placed. Breakfast over the canal was a nonstarter for us, but there is a nice grocery store fifty yards up the road where you can buy rolls and juice...

Dear guest, we are happy to read that we fitted all your needs: a clean, friendly and quiet place to stay. We don’t provide breakfast but as you wrote there are different options to have it near the hotel: there are cafes, a grocery store, a supermarket and a hotel, near ours, where you can have a continental breakfast. Thanks...

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights and loved it! Albergo San Samuele is a funky old palace in a fantastic location. It was right down the street from a vaporetti, and a short 15 minute walk to San Marco's Square. It had a wonderfully helpful staff, free Internet and Wi-fi, clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms with lots...

The hotel is located in a quiet street only 10 minutes walk from St Marks Square and very near the water and water bus stops. This little BnB is situated a 15min boat bus ride from the central railway station. From there it is very easy to find, as it’s straight and up the street apx 150m. We found it with no hassles. It is a chintzy old BnB, which is more like a pension. It has been rated with only one star, which I...

Hotel San Samuele is lovely, very clean and pleasant hotel in central Venice. Stuff is great and everyone speeks English! Next to Palazzo Grassi (http://www.palazzograssi.it/) it is very close to boat station S. Samuele and 10 minutes by foot to everything. We had great time in this real Venetaian hotel with gold mirrors, painted walls and floor made of stone....

Staying in San Samuele was great. We reached Venice late and found it quite easily. The hotel is in an old house which gives it a good old feel. Staff is friendly and helpful. The place is not expensive and is reasonable with good facilities like a huge bathroom and reasonably sized rooms.

I spent 3 nights here during my short stay in Venice. The supposedly 1-star Hotel felt just like that of a 1-star Hotel and I have stayed in hostels which had better facilities and security than that of this hotel. If you're taking the train into Venice, do note this hotel is an approximate 2km walk from the rail station....

Venice is very expensive. That's how it is. So the 125 EUR / night we paid for a double room is probably at the lower end of the price spectrum, even if it doesn't seem like "budget" in the usual sense. The location is very good - in a typically charming Venetian lane just ten minutes walk from the Piazza...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
