We got off at the wrong stop, got lost. When we finally found our way the staff was so helpful. The room was bright and cleanish. Bathroom is tiny, but clean. It was so easy to get to the Rialto and St. Marks. It's a deal.

Bear in mind that this is a 1* hotel in Italy, and in a very expensive city. Don't expect to get anywhere near what you would at these prices elsewhere. This hotel doesn't do much but does it well. Positives: + Very clean. + Nicely decorated and kept. + Very good service. + Good size rooms for a one star...

Our family of three stayed at this hotel for a recent trip to Venice. We choose a triple room with en suite; the room and bath were immaculate. The staff was very friendly. This accommodation is basic and a good value. We loved the location, which is close to a great campo--San Stefano. It's an easy walk to San Marco,...

Well maintained and modestly priced (for Venice!) hotel. The room was quite small but very clean and the en-suite was new. The double bed was very comfy and the shower was poweful. No TV which we didn't miss and no hair-dryer which would have been useful. If we were staying for more than 3 nights then I would have preferred...

San Samuele is a rare and true gem in the heart of Venice! Initially I was drawn to the detailed directions from the airport. Then I couldn't help but be attracted to the price. The first impression of this hotel was deceptive. After walking through a dingy courtyard, and up some well worn stairs, we emerged into a dull reception area. However, our room on the first floor was large by any standards, and we had a fabulous newly renovated bathroom, which would have put many highter rated hotels to shame. Service was efficient...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
