We didn't stay here but had dinner in the restaurant downstairs and it turned out to be the best meal we had in Venice (I wouldn't rate Venice for the food). Staff were pleasant, house red good, pasta very nice, meal reasonably priced and cheap...More
Small room. Not much of a view no kettle in room. Reasonably priced with friendly staff. Paper thin walls however and other people kept me awake. Couldn't get heating or air conditioning to work. Was close to everything we needed.More

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

My transfer from airport to hotel was arranged and prepaid by travel agent beforehand... I had to take a minibus from airport (with 10 or so other passengers) for approx. 20 mins to a sort of 'depot' on Grand Canal.. here we transferred onto a water taxi - all the luggage piled at the front which nearly tipped us over!... and then they stopped at various places to offload each of us... My stop was S. Marcuola (Casino).. the driver said it was a short walk to hotel Tintoretto... RUBBISH... it was horrendous... pulling a large suitcase over the cobble stones and because there is a bridge every few metres (over the canals) these had STEPS up and over... so almost impossible to drag suitcase over them... A man saw me struggling and said I should get a 'porter'... he found one - a chap with a sort of flat trolley with a small wheel at the front which meant he could negotiate the stops over the bridges... eventually after he got lost and had to get directions - we arrived at the hotel - and he wanted 25 euros - which I should was far too much - so we settled on 15.... (I paid the same for the return journey as the hotel ordered the porter for me to get back to the same stop. Hope this helps a bit... DV.

Hotel is close to major tourist attractions. The starting point of sight seeing tour water buses and trains to mainland are little far from this place but by walk wouldn't take more than 15 mins. Rialto market and Rialto bridge are near to the hotel.
In general when visiting Venice, it's better to prepare mentally for walking than looking for waterbus.
