What a great hotel. Just a few hundred metres from the station and bus station down a quiet alleyway. Staff very helpful. Room excellent and rates very reasonable and includes breakfast. One of the best city break hotels we have used. Easy 50m distance access to vaporettos etc Will go there again if we visit Venice again.

We booked this hotel partly on a recomendation in lonely planet and partly from reviews on this site. The hotel is a haven of peace and quiet. The lounge bar is an excellent place to relax after a busy day. Our room (Superior double) was large by Italian standards and had a fine view over the garden. Staff were friendly...

We stayed at the Hotel Abbazia on 3/5/07 & 3/6/07. I must say that the Hotel was a lovely budget option. Yes, you do have to walk down an alley to get there, but it is well worth it. The staff was wonderful & fluent in English. They had a delicious breakfast in the morning. The room was quite small,...

I loved everything about Hotel Abbazia: the friendly and helpful front desk staff, the breakfast, the room and the hotel's convenience to the train station. It's about 5 minutes from the train station and a 3-4 minute walk to the water bus office. I highly recommend this hotel.

I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. We stayed in a huge family room with 4 beds in it and still room to spare. The room was spotless and maid service was excellent. Breakfast was ample and of good quality. All the staff we encountered were friendly and went out of the way to help. Location is great for...

Have just returned from a 5 day trip to Venice. Our party was 3 Ladies of a "certain age". We stayed at Hotel Abbazia which near the station and water buses and the staff were excellent. Would definitely recommend it. Everyone should see Venice at least once

I booked this hotel because of the many positive comments I read about it on this website and I wasn't disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Dennis (from Venice!), the barman, was fantastic too. When we arrived, because our room only had a bath and not a shower, they upgraded us at...

The staff at this hotel were so welcoming and kind. Our room was fabulous. I had requested a shower and they gave us a wonderful room with a lovely bathroom (with a large shower). We requested ice each evening (which I realize is not a common thing in Italy) and they went above and beyond to accomodate us without making...

this hotel is considered a 3 star hotel, but that's an understatement. the hotel's exterior was a bit scary at first, but as they say never judge a book by its cover. the staff were incredibly helpful and sweet. the room was beautiful and clean. the location is a great spot for tourists because there is so much to do...

Hotel Abbazia is perfectly located to see Venice in all it's beauty. The hotel is situated at the north of the Veneto, but please don't be put off by this; I walked to St. Marks in just over 45 minutes and it could easily have been 15 minutes but for the fact that I has to stop and look at...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
