Having read some of the reviews I had no clue what I would be walking into! First of all the staff. Overall, really pleasant and helpful. One wasn't very engaging, but wasn't rude. We were taken to our room by a gentleman who carried my bag up the stairs. We had to go though an external gate, the main door...

I've never rated any hotel a 1 on 5 before, and there is a reason I am choosing to give this hotel a 1 on 5. The hotel is a very small one, with tiny rooms. But considering the density of population and tourists in Venice, I guess most hotels would have a space constraint. But other basic amenities like...

I was a mum on my own with two kids (9 and 7) in Venice for 5 days. Found the hotel after a few minutes (tip its on the Rialto bridge side of the little stairs). Once in staff we welcoming enough - I said that I could not manage the stairs with the bag and the lady arranged someone...

So on the bright side, my quads and calves are getting a great workout from lugging suitcases up and down 5 stories of stairs. When the staff watched the obviously struggling elderly patrons ahead of us barely make it past the first steps I almost thought they may get a conscience and jump in and help. Nope. As for breakfast,...

Booked this hotel from booking.com 24 hours before arrival. Turned up at night and checked in then had to climb with out bags up to the 4th floor. We booked twin room as I was traveling with my friend...got to the room to find it was a queen. Went back downstairs and said to the guy at check in the...

My mum and I stayed in this hotel for a long weekend city break to Venice. After reading previous reviews we were both utterly terrified about what we would find... The hotel surpassed all expectations (& reservations!!) that we had formed so I felt I had to leave a completely honest, not over dramatised review... Firstly, the location is PERFECT....

Hotel is dated, reception small and guys on the desk unhelpful. No lift and you do not get help to carry your bags. Room was quite nice, clean but, no wardrobe only a rail (3 hangers) and not one set of drawers, . Nowhere to put your clothes etc except on the chair or leave in your case, was a...

It's quite worrying this "hotel" has the rating it does. Without being rude, if there was a 0 star, it would be worthy of it. The hotel seems to be single handedly run by a few Asian men who in their defence , are very nice. That said, there is one old Italian man who I presume to be the...

Where to begin with this review........ We arrived to be greeted by a rather flustered Indian fellow who although was friendly was clearly out of his depth when having to deal with multiple customers at the same time. We were a bit early to check in and went to the restaurant to have a coffee to relax while waiting for...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
