We wanted to be close to transportation for touring Venice and to the cruise terminal and this hotel is the perfect location, convenient for both. From the main bus, train, boat location, the Piazzale Roma, you only walk over a ramp/step bridge and another small bridge, stay left for short distance and there is the hotel. Because of the short...

We only stayed 1 night at Ca dei Polo as we were getting on a cruise ship the next day. The Hotel was relatively easy to get to and not from the bus station, although we actually walked straight past it the first time as there are no signs out front just the number (which was not clearly marked). Our...

Very nice small hotel near the train station in Venice. Very helpful staff, good breakfast on the rooftop deck. Rooms clean and comfortable. Good wifi signal in our room. Would be nice to have a canal view, but we weren't in the room very much. Venice is a great city, be sure to take the water bus to Burano!

Perfect location (once we found it), just a 5-minute walk from bus depot. Quiet room overlooking courtyard. Other rooms overlook the small canal (may be noisier). Breakfast was fine, inside in October. However, we did enjoy our own wine and casual dinner one evening on the comfortable rooftop terrace at sunset - what a great escape from the craziness of...

This small B&B hotel has so much potential. It is really difficult to find as no visible signage on or near the front door ... we walked past about 3 times and asked directions from nearby shops and it wasn't until we looked for the street number that we eventually found it. Once you know where it is the convenience...

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Jr Suite overlooking the canal and had an amazing stay. It was super easy to get to from the train station and also away from the busier touristy areas (which is definitely a huge plus once you realize how crazy packed those areas are). The property was very quaint and just perfect for...

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in mid-September. The room was very nice, the bathroom very modern, and the rooftop terrace views at breakfast were spectacular! It is a bit hard to figure out which door leads to the hotel, but if you carefully read the house numbers you will find it. Very handy to walk from...

Good thing we had assistance from the Porter at the train station. Very convenient. I wish I had read the reviews better, when we arrived...no hotel sign, just a little name over a call box. We were let in and assumed someone was coming...we waited and waited...over a half hour, when I noticed an envelope with my name and instructions...

Loved our stay. Nice cozy room, clean, nice bathroom, convenient location to transportation to cruise ships (and tours of the city), which was our case. Beautiful view from terrace! Would highly recommend eating breakfast on the terrace, weather permitting. They were also kind enough to allow us to keep our bags at reception while we toured the city the next...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
