Being in Venice was wonderful, staying at the Savoia and Jolanda made it even more special. It is centrally located and overlooks the canal. Our room was ready even though we arrived earlier than the normal check-in time. The staff was wonderful and always made sure we were taken care of. The room was very clean and nicely decorated and...

While we did not stay at this hotel, we did decide to have dinner at their restaurant, the Restorante Principessa just across from the water bus stop at St. Marks Square. The food was great, but what really makes this place awesome is the staff. During our meal, a fast moving thunderstorm rolled in from nowhere and the staff immediately...

This hotel is in a great location right on the Grande Canal close to everything! The room was tiny but it had a small balcony which helped! The hotel itself was very nice and the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was served outside in their dining area and it was great to watch the crowds pass by first thing...

Location location location. This hotel is it. Ferry and water taxi stations across the way. St marks square is 5 minutes walk away so you can dodge the crowds and the heat by retreating into the air conditioned rooms midafternoon. We had a teeny tiny room with a small balcony that gave you a glimpse of the grand canal. But...

A superb location directly opposite the water bus stop and near the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Square, an ideal base. There is a lovely restaurant on the waterfront, a delight for breakfast and at other times. Friendly welcoming staff who gave so many good recommendations. The room was charming and overlooked the waterfront with views across the lagoon.

We stayed for two nights here and couldn't believe how lucky we were for value for money. The location was amazing and it is an idyllic looking hotel. The rooms were average size for Europe and lovely and clean. The staff we dealt with were really friendly and spoke English well which was helpful for us. We had a early...

I can't say enough about Hotel Savoia and Yolanda. First of all, it is located on the Grand Canal, so from the Venice airport (VCE), you can take the Alilaguna Water bus directly to the San Zacharia pier in front of your hotel. The cost of the water bus is 8-15 euros each way. This means that you don't have...

10 of us have just returned from Venice, we stayed at the Savoia & Jolanda and could not fault this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were treated like Royalty. The staff are welcoming, friendly, efficient and extremely helpful. Thomas, Front of House was great. He organised a wonderful trip to the Islands on the hotel's boat with a...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
