Our rooms were excellent - roomy with a nice-sized bathroom and a heated towel rack. Our buffet breakfast was included and was quite good. The staff was helpful and friendly. I would stay there again.

This is an old style hotel with steps to and inside the room we stayed in. The location is great, steps away from the water taxis and 2 bridges (5minutes) away from piazza San Marco. The staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel offers free boat transfer to a gallery/store/glass blowing place in Murano.

Wow what an unusual hotel! We stayed three nights here on a rainy October weekend. The staff was amazing and our room was upgraded to a junior suite. But the dark red wallpaper and decor was oppressive. The owners have taken their antique hobby too far and the hotel was jammed with their unusual collections. We did enjoy the buffet... More

Our first contact with the hotel was with Sara in reservations. She could not have been more helpful, and has excellent English. Check-in was super quick as was check- out. The decor is quite dark, husband did not like it but it is typical opulent old world Venetian and interesting to browse around. Br akfast was good but it helps... More

Magnificent... decor, service, staff, all outstanding. Lobby, rooms decorated with antique furniture with thoroughly modern bathrooms. The breakfast is fantastic, the Bar is great, but pricey. Worth a stay, if we come back to Venice, we come back to Metropole.

We enjoyed the location no the room. Breakfast was excellent as part of the deal. We had arrive via orient express so water taxis all included. Did they think we were rich? Next day we were introduced to the concierge. As we had not been to Venice before we asked him for advice on where to go as we had... More

Stayed in this hotel for a long weekend. We had a room decorated in fabulous old furniture whilst our friends had a room next door that was more modern, each room seems to be unique and a lot of care has been put into the decor. The hotel is ideally situated on the front by the lagoon and is a... More

Don't think we could have chosen a better hotel. Staff were excellent. Chaps in the bar were very friendly and chatty making us both feel at home. The room was attractive; though the 'view' over the canel proved to be more of a view of the wall on the opposite side. Probably chosing a view over the garden or lagood... More

My husband and I booked the Metropole Hotel for 5 days for our honeymoon..and what a fantastic hotel to celebrate the first days of married life. The hotel is spotless and the staff are extremely helpful! The room was always cleaned and when leaving to explore the city on our return the bed was turned down and towels refreshed, the... More

We stayed here for seven nights towards the end of October 2016. The hotel is in a fantastic location, right on the Riva Degli Schiavoni, just a bridge away from the San Zaccaria ACTV Vaporetto and Allilaguna (Linea Blu) stops. The Arsenale stop is only 5 minutes away in the opposite direction. So, it couldn't be more convenient - only... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
