This hotel is clean and convenient to the train station, ferry stop and generally within walking distance of just about anything you would want to see. Breakfast is good and the staff who oversee breakfast are great. Some other staff are not as helpful or...More

I needed a hotel for a business trip in Venice and chose the one closest to the train station for practical reasons. I have to say that the vicinity to the main station and the taxis is the only positive thing for business travelers.
We stayed at the Hotel Carlton in December 2012 and our stay this time did not disappoint us. Perfectly located overlooking the canal. Travelling with friends it was ideal for a private water taxi from the airport. The hotel having their own water landing directly...More
This was our first trip to Italy and this was the first hotel we stayed in during our trip. We could not have been happier. It was simply lovely. The food was wonderful, the staff very helpful and they all spoke English, so that was...More
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture
universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.

does have many stairs we counted about 65 up and 65 down Have seen boats taking people across from one side to another.I would personally ask the hotel to arrange for your transfer ..but have heard its very costly. Also arrange your hotel to fetch your luggage from station as we did not see anyone there and we had to carry our luggage across the bridge ourselves but arranged with the hotel porter to take back for us on leaving.2 suitcases was 20 euros
hope that helps
