The best thing about the hotel is location,...just opposite train station and near the bus stand. We stayed there just one night but thought that we will visit again and opt for same hotel. good breakfast and professional staff.

As others have said the hotel is nice and close to the train station and bus terminal which means you don't have to travel far with your suitcase. I booked our room 7 months ago requesting a room with a view of the Grand canal, which we didn't get, the room was really hot, the beds were really hard, the...

Positioned within easy walking distance to the bus and train station yet nestled beautifully on the Grand Canal, this little gem ticks all the tourist boxes. Lovely reception staff, small homely lobby and rooms that are in keeping with the history of the place....not to everyone's taste but clean and very comfortable. A safe bet

Arrived at this hotel with my husband for 3 night stay. Good location near to train an coach station with just 5 min walk. Booked superior double b&b . Went to room 219 and it was like the black hole. Tiny room like a sauna and view from room of the ventilation system. Not what we expected as booked superior....

Stayed 2 nights in one of the Triple Rooms (319) with my wife and teenage son, We were very pleased to find the third bed was in a separate bedroom to ours allowing far better privacy, The room comprised small entrance hallway with dressing table, chair and wardrobe and two separate bedrooms - the larger one having double bed and...

This former palace is located in a fantastic location and is on the Canal, located across from the train station (a bridge that connects to the train station is a short walk away). They are plenty of restaurants w/in walking distance ( avoid the restaurants on the canal-strictly tourist traps ). The rooms are small compared to the States, but who...

This hotel on the grand canal is in a great location, right across from the train station, making it always easy to find by following the signs to "Ferrovio," or taking a vaporetto there. The lobby is beautiful, classic old Venetian decor. But our room was the smallest we had in Italy, and was beastly hot. The bathroom had a...

Just across the grand canal from central station but crossing the bridge with big bagguage was very awkward. There is no slope only stairs on the bridge leaving huge space for professional porters around there for 20 euro to help you! Easy to go to airport using bus No. 5 from bus terminal but the fare was not included in...

We stayed here for two nights. The staff of this hotel is fantastic! Upon arrival we were checked in and though our room wasn't ready they stored our bags, provided us with maps and info about Venice and told us when the trim would be ready. The room was very clean and comfortable. The porter showed us how to operate...

The hotel staff were helpful and the hotel was of a good standard. We stayed in the roof top terrace and were worried by previous reviews but were pleasantly surprised. We were able to check in at 12 and the location was magical. The hotel was a little pricey but was old style Venetian and quaint. We went for two...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
