Just returned from a family weekend break at the Carlton. There were 11 of us in total from 65 to 21 years of age. All the rooms were very different. I had previously e mailed the hotel to ask if I could have a canal view room if available and was pleasantly surprised when they managed to allocate one to...

We've just come back from Venice and we stayed in Carlton on the Grand which was absolutely lovely. The hotel is very clean and holds onto a Venician style and character which we loved. The staff were very helpful and really great.. they made us feel very welcome. Our room was very small but since we spent hardly any time...

We stayed for 3 nights. Positives are the Location which is good, as right on the Grand Canal. It's just all a bit tired and would benefit from a make over. Our room had lots of dirty marks on walls and ceiling, and carpet needed replaced. Bed & shower were fine.Breakfast was again very basic. Its just all a bit...

The location of this hotel is perfect! You step out and you are right on the canal. It is walking distance from everything, and has good amenities and a good breakfast. Loved my stay here! The hotel also has a good lounge/bar and a cute little terrace. Definitely recommend staying here if you are in Venice.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, it is also in a great location, walking distance from the coach station where you can travel to and from the airport. The staff are extremely helpful when guiding you through...

I would recommend this Hotel to anyone looking to book to stay in Venice. It is central to basically everything. It's not even 5 minutes from the bus depot which, when you are not familiar with an area is always a bonus. You get an extremely friendly vibe upon arrival and the staff were absolutely amazing. The rooms were decorated...

Cannot recommend this hotel enough! Perfect location, amazing customer service and great food and cocktails. The rooftop lounge is fab and the prices you would expect. Had lunch one day and then returned for dinner (they have 3 courses for €35pp - great deal). Our room was huge, only complaint is that bathroom needs updating but was still absolutely fine....

My girlfriend and I visited Venice between the 3rd and 6th of January, we booked way in advance and got a great deal making the hotel a very modest price for what you receive. I like to break many of my hotel reviews down into different criteria: price, location, food & service and cleanliness. This city break was slightly different...

Stayed here in November 2016. First time in Venice and had a lovely trip. Hotel was very easy to find, was nicely decorated and the rooms were clean and furnished in a classic venitian style. We were given a room at the front on the second floor. It was a lovely room with a great view down the Grand Canal....

The ground floor of the Carlton Hotel is what you would expect, and is reflected in the price. However, once you step out of the lift to go to your room the standard dips quite dramatically. The ambiance, atmosphere, and general overall feeling is lost. The corridors and decor become 'basic' to say the least, and it would be quite...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
