It was a cold, dark and foggy evening. I was walking with my trolley bag feeling as though I was in a maze! Then a lady stopped to ask me, "Are you lost?" "No, I just could not find this place on my map." Soon after I heard people talking and dogs barking. I walked towards them. One of the...

The owner is very rude towards his guests, which obviously is the reason I give this rating. He yells at them or doesn't even provide good information about the city. Also, when you arrive, the first thing he will do is charge money for bed linen (5EUR) and citytax (3EUR). If you will have a late check in or leave...

I stayed one weekend in Venice with three friends. The hostel was clean, small and cosy. Everything was comfortable enough for at least a short stay. We could make some breakfast in the kitchen, but cooking with the stove is not allowed. Beds were comfortable. Only problem was that there was only one bathroom, so you sometimes need to wait...

A lovely place in the heart of Venice for a reasonable price even for students like us, free wi-fi, warm-colored walls, kitchen facilities, clean environment, hospitable people. They recommended us the close located pizzeria napoletana Rossopomodoro, where you can eat cheaper tasty dishes and the best vino dolce: moscato frizzante.

When I arrived they took me to a different location about fifteen minutes walk from where I thought I'd be staying. Deceptive. Wifi doesn't work in my room. No use of the kitchen. Extra €5/night charge for SHEETS? Extra charge for a locker. I'd only stay here for less than three nights in a last minute booking. If you have...

I stayed just one night here, it was very basic but not the worst place I've stayed in. If your not planning on staying long or spending much time in the hostel it would be fine as it one of the cheapest in Venice. The man that runs it was very friendly and helpful.

I was brougt there with my friend by the guy that I assume ran the place. He walked us over by all these little shady backstreets without telling us where we were going. Such a shady place. We had to sleep in turns so no-one would steal our stuff. Bathrooms were in terrible condition, shower was kinda broken and everything...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
