A nice little hotel convenient for the train station and Vaporetto stops, as well as local restaurants. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Good continental breakfast and a nice little bar - with very good prices for Venice! Would definitely stay again.

Venice was the last port of call on our Italian holiday, and easily the most anticipated one. In common with all our destinations, it had to ideally be within walking distance of a railway station, and the Hesperia was no exception. We got off the Italian Eurostar at Ferrovia, went straight to Tourist Info and got a map (2 Euro)....

It's difficult to add much to the glowing reviews below, but I could not return home without giving two thumbs up to this cozy and friendly establishment. Location is ideal, as it's a short walk from the train station with no bridges to lug suitcases over. Even the walk from Lucia is lined with choice trattorias and gelatorias. Staff was...

This hotel is very convenient if you are coming to Venice by train with luggage. It is not a long walk and is without any bridges. The common rooms are very nice. Breakfast was very good. They were kind enough to make me an iced cappuccino every morning. We were given a room with a canal view, which was very...

We were very fortunate to have booked Hotel Hesparia for our first trip to Venice. A short walk from the Central Railway station & we were there. The roof top terrace was lovely for drinks at dusk...no- one else staying there used it the whole time we were there! Our view was divine...the little General store right on our doorstep...

We spent 6 nights at Hotel Hesperia and could not have been more pleased with the location, cleanliness and extremely warm and helpful staff. We were able to walk to several different Vaparetto stops and that made getting around easy and fun. Its location on a quiet side canal made us feel like we were part of the local life...

Excellent Hotel, Staff very friendly and helpful, location good, close to the main street, but just off it so nice and quiet. Breakfast very good too - loved the soft rolls. Room was clean, bed comfortable, shower facilities good. Can't fault the place or the staff who have better english than my italian. Been there 3 times now, and I'm...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
