This was the second hotel in Venice we stayed in during a trip to Italy so I had another similary priced hotel for comparison. This hotel was great and very easy to find, the decoration of the hotel and room was lovely. The room was also a great size (standard room). Staff were very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast...

I stayed at the Hotel American for 3 nights and thought it was wonderful. The location was perfect - especially when arriving, it was only a 5 minute walk from the Alilaguna stop at Zattere and very easy to find. It was near the common tourists spots: San Marco and Accademia - the former was a 20min walk away which...

The location of this hotel is 5 minutes walk from the Accademia Bridge with views to die for. It is in a very pleasant area and easy to find. The hotel itself is quite small. We had a quad room which was cramped but clean and only accessible by stairs not elevator. Breakfast was fine and the staff very helpful.

This hotel is perfectly located - it is on the quiet, neighborhood area of Dorsoduro which is across the Grand Canal from the tourist sections, yet is a two minute walk to the Accademia Bridge and Museum, and to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. It is about a ten minute walk to St. Mark's Square and the Doges Palace, through interesting...

We don't have that much to add to other reviews, (we liked this place- friendly/helpful staff, great location, etc.), other than to say, with the name American Dinesan, and all the positive reviews here, the hotel attracts a clientele that is, well, mostly American. Which can be a positive, or a negative, depending upon how you look at it. The...

This hotel is one of the best kept secrets of Venice. It's a small, beautiful hotel. I was traveling with family. The location is excellent, very close to the point Academia Bridge. The staff was excellent, friendly, and accommodating. It's 15 minutes walk St. Mark's Square and most other locations in Venice. From the moment we arrived the hotel felt...

This hotel is a real gem and I was tempted to keep it a family secret. However, I decided to share our experience. The location is perfect; a stone's throw from the Ponte Accademia across the Grand Canal and the waterbus stop. It is away from the bustle of the centre but within easy reach of everything. We walked to...

This hotel has a great location which allows one to be close to the tourist areas, as well as feel that one is off the beaten track a little. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, and the breakfast, while simple, does the trick. There are plenty of restaurants close by, and the Accademia Bridge is right there, so...

Best hotel of a 2-week European vacation. Travelled with 2 18-year-olds and a 21-year-old, and this was our favorite hotel. Splurge on the canal view -- after a day of walking Venice it was wonderful to come back to sit on the balcony and enjoy the canal and the street below. The hotel was immaculate and the staff was knowledgeable...

This is a cozy, small hotel located off of the busy areas of Venice, but well within a short (10 minute at most) walking distance to just about everything. The rooms are adequately large, which we stayed in with 4 people. We had a canal view, which I'd highly recommend, on the 3rd floor. It's a great place to watch...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
