Me and my husband spent 2 nights at the Hotel Montecarlo in March 2017. Venice is a confusing city to get to grips with and yet our hotel was so well located that we never had any trouble finding it after a long day or night out. The hotel is just metres away from St Marks square. The room was...

We had already been recommended to this hotel by friends and it couldn't have been any better located being only around 100 metres from St Marks Square. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very nice with lots of choice. There were plenty of good quality restaurants all within minutes walk as well as obviously all the amazing...

The hotel is located in a tiny shop lined street about 100 meters from the Basilica in St Mark's Square. We stayed for five nights and had excellent service throughout. The room was beautifully furnished and the bathroom was very modern with good facilities. Both were spotlessly clean with fresh towels etc daily. All the hotel staff were very friendly...

Just returned from Hotel Montecarlo. We could not fault this hotel. It is in a perfect position , easy to get to all the attractions just at the back of St. Marks Square. The hotel was beautifully kept, very clean and of a high standard . The rooms had mini bar and tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was excellent ....

Stayed here for a week with a group. Very satisfied with the friendly staff, excellent breakfast and complimentary afternoon tea. We had dinner in the Antico Pignolo restaurant next door: to be recommended. Wine was included and I paid 135 euros per night for DBB. Good value. My single room was small but then space is at a premium in...

We stayed 3 nights at this really charming little hotel, we found it was really easy to find which in Venice can be tricky. Our room was a little tired, really clean but very hot which was one of the very few things we found as a negative as was the shower which never seemed to get warmer than Luke...

Dear Guests thank you for staying with us and for leaving your opinion about our hotel! Best regards

Typical of many Venetian hotels the Hotel Montecarlo is crammed into a side street and has a small entrance lobby and lift (this will not be a popular lift with your average USA tourist). Our room was a bit smaller than I hoped and to be honest just a little bit tatty and jaded. Clean but evidence of watermarks on...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
