Just back from a glorious weekend in Venice, and stayed at the Papadopoli hotel there. We found this old world hotel very charming and comfortable (Sofitel standard beds and linens) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We reserved a deluxe room with canal view and it indeed had a delightful view on a nearby church and on a little canal....

I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Papadopoli. We stayed at a few places around Italy (Rome, Florence, Sorrento), but this was definitely my favorite. The beds were absolutely wonderful - some of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! It was also very easily accesible from Venezia train station which was good news for myself and my...

We were given a rather large, very nice room on the top floor corner and certainly enjoyed the views and the comfortable king size bed. The balcony could have been an important asset had it been cleaned; covered in pigeon droppings and feathers though, it was useless.

This hotel is a short walk from the St Lucia train station. Room was very small, an old fit out and had no extra power points to plug in a laptop or recharge a mobile phone. Finished up having to up plug a floor lamp and to alternate using the laptop and mobile phone adaptors. Mirror in the room was...

Stayed here at the end of our holiday but it was a great place to say goodbye to a wonderful city. We were check-in after arriving early off the cruise ship and our cases were secured for the day as we went off to explore prior to being able to check-in. That was no problem though and they were ready...

The staff were great especially Dominic. The breakfast options are very good and made a good start to the day, the evening meal was even better. We found the whole hotel very elegant and our room and bar area nice and cool. After walking around Venice we loved sitting in the cool bar with a wine, so very Italian. If...

This hotel has larger rooms than I expected to see in Venice. Clean, comfortable. Breakfast was extra but very nice - hot and cold buffet every morning, coffee etc included. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. It is in a quieter park of Venice but within walking distance to just about everything.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
