My in laws were very impressed with this hotel. Luxurious rooms and amazing breakfast area and sumptuous selections. Since we are accor members, we got to enjoy welcome drinks at their bar. Loved it that we could choose any drink in their drinks menu unlike other hotels that would only give you either coffee, tea , juice, or a glass...

Great location and great hotel. Enjoyed the facilities and the bar lounge area. The room was comfortable and recently refurbished. It is very easy to find and not too far away from the bus and train terminal

Spent 3 days in Venice at the Hotel Papapodoli with my husband and 3 adult children (in two rooms) and had a wonderful time. The hotel was exactly what we've come to expect from the Sofitel chain, and I would not stay any place else when I return. The location was wonderful -- car transport brings you within 5 mins...

Our last stay here was when it was still a Pullman Hotel. Refurbishment is almost complete and the décor is spectacular. I would call it Rococo but they say traditional Venetian. Some practical improvements could be made at little cost ,like a shelf in the bathroom and more drawer or shelf space in the bedroom. The a/c is difficult to...

Fabulous hotel with every bit of luxury you could hope for. The hotel decor is luxurious Venetian style with beautiful wall paper, soft carpets, drape curtains, glass door knobs etc. The bed was super comfy and large bathroom with great shower, very well equipped. We had a little balcony overlooking the canal so lovely to have a view. The windows...

We have just returned from a first ever visit to Venice and following my usual round of research and investigation chose the Hotel Papadopoli, not just because of other reviewers extremely positive comments but from a pragmatic perspective it offers the perfect location for so many things in Venice. For example closeness to the main transport hub to and from...

We had decided for this hotel because of the location and definitely did well. It is located a little bit off the very centre, but you can easily reach all the places of interest, so for us the quiet location was a big advantage. The hotel is cozy, with a great service, we had breakfast there and the selection was...

This hotel has the perfect location - walking distance (5 minutes) from Piazza Roma, so if you arrive by boat, bus or taxi it is very convenient to roll your suitcase - only one bridge to cross. It is also very close to the train station (10 minutes easy walk) from there too. We could not have asked for a...

What a delight this hotel was. I was a bit hesitant about staying so close to the train station and far away from St Mark's square, but none of this was a problem at all. It's a 30 mins waterbus to The Doge's Palace, and the hotel's located in a nice, quiet area (which is perfect once you spend the...

This hotel caught our attention from the outside as we were wondering about Venice. We decided to stop and get a drink and were pleasantly surprised by the creative decor and inviting ambiance. Our server was fantastic, attentive, and brought us two chef's tastings that were delicious! We came in search of warmth and fresh bellinis. We were warmly welcomed...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
