My wife and I travelled to Venice to celebrate her birthday. We stayed at the Bauer Hotel. We loved the position of the Hotel. It was close to all the most important sights (2 minutes walk). The breakfast deck is on the Grand Canal. Every morning we could see the cruise ships passing 200 meters from where we were siting...

The rooms are fairly small even by European standards. However, the service was excellent. When we needed ice, it was delivered in 2 minutes. They were proactive about the possibility of additional noise (which we did not even experience) by providing ear plugs, etc.

You can't find a better location for a hotel in Venice. Breakfast in the outdoor terrace overlooking the Grand Hotel is a little slice of heaven. Hotel rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. But the staff left much to be desired. I was informed at check-in that my 2 night stay (pre-cruise) was not long enough to get a canal...

The hotel location is good just 1 min away from piazza san marco! But as a five stars hotel it is not worth it! Rooms are very small and decoration of the room is so cheap! Nothing special the only good thing is the breakfast wont stay another time there for sure

Have just returned from a short break to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very clean but the only down side our room did not have any natural light which was very disappointing. On the day of my husbands birthday we returned to find a bottle of champagne waiting for...

This is a beautiful and lovely spooky old hotel. It is vintage Venice – like everything in Venice. When I was walking through the halls to my room, I kept expecting to see a child’s ghost appear. You can certainly tell that the hotel was converted from an old school. It still has that Catholic dormitory feel to it. The...

Spent the last 4 days at the Bauer Hotel, Venice. Possibly one of the best hotels ever......excellent location, great breakfast (on the terrace overlooking the Grande canal), lovely friendly helpful staff, good rooms, and gondola's on tap. If you can afford it I would recommend this hotel as a brilliant place to stay.

The Bauer Hotel in Vensie is beautiful, we had a very big suit with a nice view from our small balcony for two, very romantic. Wonderful hotel. Expensive and worth every penny. Great service from all staff. Wonderful breakfast with excellent service and incredible views and ambiance, sitting on the Grand Canal. This hotel is located opposite all of the designer shops and right next to the gondola point. We arrived by water taxi and had the most amazing stay. It was for our 10th wedding anniversary. Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
