First off, this is not a hotel but a bed in breakfast at best/residence at best. There is no reception area. You are going to climb three levels of stairs. No one is going to come help you. A travel agent made my reservation and gave my credit card information. Upon carrying my bags up three flights of stairs I... More

Stayed in Venice Emeralds for 3 night at the start of September.Room 3 (i think) on the top floor so a few stpes to be handled. Had the usual trouble finding the place but thats the same problem with trying to find anything in Venice when you first arrive. Found the room large and very comfortable with a modern en-suite.... Brilliant location with a great triple room. Pepe the owner was extremely accommodating and could not do enough for us! Definitely recommend Venice A Emerald to anyone and hope to visit again in the future, as our stay was made extra special by the service we received.

The hotel could not be better located and it's owner could not have been more welcoming. The hotel went way beyond the usual chain hotels and had a much more personal touch which was wonderful. Rooms were modern and quiet which is rare in any street in Venice. I had never been Venice before but this could not have been... More

In a quiet (for Venice) and secluded area but close to the Grand Canal, San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Classic old venetian building but beautifully modernised inside. We stayed in the annexe opposite the main building. It was great to be able to come and go as we wanted. The room was very clean and fitted with modern furniture.... More

It's more a B than a B&B as there is no breakfast but the accommodation is very suitable, clean and comfortable. It's in a good area of Venice and is great value for money, we stayed in a 1 bed with 2 adults and 2 children and were very comfortable with lots of room. It is difficult to find when... More

We were looking forward to staying here because of the good reviews written. Alas two weeks after booking we were cancelled apparently due to the credit card authorisation denied. I'm not sure why as we've never had this problem before and I regularly book accommodation on the same card. I emailed to ask them to reinstate and I would happily... More

My wife and I spent a long week-end in Venice and I chose the A Venice Emeralds 1&2 after checking trip advisor. It seemed too good to be true, but it was all that I read about it and more. We had a room in Emeralds 2 across the way from Emeralds 1. The room was immaculate and cleaned each... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
