Great location overlooking a small canal. Easy walking distance to St Marks but far enough a way to avoid most of the crowds. Really quaint rooms in an old house. Only negative was the breakfast - plenty of sweets / packaged breads but not really good quality.

We stayed here for two nights the end of October. I could not have asked for more! I reserved the "suite" with the canal view. The photos and amenities were exactly as described and pictured. The only problem we had was notifying them exactly when we were arriving, as we had no phone that would work in Italy. We took...

We booked 2 of the 3 rooms for a three night stay. From the time we checked in until check out, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were met with our bags and escorted to the charming, quaint home of our host. Also, the rooms were perfectly comfortable and very nicely appointed. We couldn't have asked not wanted more, our stay...

Lovely room with comfortable bed and pleasant atmosphere with decor just right for Venice. It captured something of the spirit of Venice with a tapestry and although they're the lighting was subdued it seemed to suit the ambience. The location was good - on a small side canal but the noise from the gondoliers and the people crossing the bridge...

I don't have more that words of thank you! We arrived really late and they were waiting for us at the vaporetto station and help us carry our luggage. The room was wonderful with beautiful decor, the bathroom was really clean and fully new; the bed was so confortable. The breakfast really complete and delicious. The location is great, near...

An amazing find, Room was a real gem with fantastic view over canal with gondolas passing by, music drifting up to our balcony. Everything you could wish for, spotlessly clean, bed really comfortable, fridge, hair dryer and excellent choice of food for continental breakfast. The position was a real bonus, just minutes form St Marks square and Grand canal and...

We had 3 nights in the junior suite. It was very comfortable, spacious and elegantly furnished. Watching the gondolas from the balcony was great fun. The location is perfect, within striking distance of all major attractions. Our hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment.

I stayed here for a couple of nights late September. I booked my room by emailing the owners directly through their website. They were very easy to communicate with, replying quickly before and during my stay with good advice, and welcomed me at the boat stop when I got to Venice from the airport. Speaking of which, Gio&Gio is very...

The B & B was even better than we expected. The location is two minutes flat walk from the vaporetto stop, no bridges, easy with luggage. We stayed in the suite so had our own sitting area and a little balcony onto the canal. The breakfast was provided and more than enough, fresh fruit, juice, yoghurt, coffee, tea and prepackaged...

Location, Location, Location 5 minutes to St Marks square and 3 minutes from restaurants that are realistically priced. Gianni met us as arranged, the room is a dream we had the large one overlooking the canal, well with the extra money. I spent time just siting and watching the world go by from the balcony. Highly recommended.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
