Just recently returned from vacation where I stayed one night at Palazzo Paruta. I booked this hotel because I wanted an authentic venetian experience, not a modern hotel chain; I was very happy with my decision. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, and located in an area close to the main square but far enough to enjoy a little peace and...

Great location, everything is near, everything was classy. I recommend it if you will stay a few nights but if you are only going to stay for a night to take a cruise is not walking distance to the port "people mover", how ever it is near to a Vaporeto station so you can take a water taxi.

Had a nice stay at this hotel on a girlie weekend in Venice. It is quite easy to get to from the Sant.Angelo boat stop. The ladies on reception were very friendly and helpful. Our twin room was a bit dark for my liking but clean and the bathroom quite spacious with free toiletries. The breakfasts were good with a...

First the good, I loved the hotel's location, walkable close to everything but in a nice quiet square that makes you feel like you're enjoying your own little piece of Venice. We stayed with our two kids in a junior suite. It was spacious and roomy and had a beautiful view of the squares small canal. The room is appointed...

Opting for a standard room I wasn't expecting how Small the room would be an upon asking for an upgrade was told politely that everywhere was full. This is my second time to Venice and I have to say the location is excellent for the main attractions ( all 5-10) mins away and the breakfast is splendid - fresh pancakes...

The Palazzo Paruta in Venice was a great base for our Venice trip. Easy to get to, just take the vaporetto from the train station to San Angelo and then a short 5 minute walk to the hotel. It is on a small canal so you still have the canal views without all the noise of the Grand Canal. We...

My partner and I stayed here two nights and it was the one place we splurged on as it was towards the end of the trip. We got off at San Angelo station and found the walk very simple (mind you we are in our 20's so it should be!) . Upon check in we were greeted by a nice...

Venice. We traveled here with our teenaged kids, and I had a nice conversation with my son, who commented, "At what point does something become 'rustic' rather than being considered 'blight'?" It was good to know he was being observant, and was also keeping things in perspective. It is apparently very difficult to renovate buildings in Venice, which means things...

I booked this hotel last summer for our Venice trip which took place a few weeks ago. Possibly I forgot specifically what my fellow reviewers had said, but in my mind this hotel should have been a better stay based upon their ratings. It is true that the staff is friendly and helpful while in Venice, however it would have...

Tucked away off San Angelo boat stop is this charming hotel. The room was small and we did not have a balcony but we were there really only to sleep. The front desk staff was extremely helpful with any information we needed. We loved the location and the nearby restaurants just outside the door to the plaza. The daily breakfast...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
