Stayed 4 nights at the Alla Vite Dorata in Venice during Carnival time. A small hotel with only 6 rooms, but very comfortable. Tastefully decorated and very clean. Room had a view of the canal at the back of the hotel. Friendly and helpful owner. Good location with only short walks to major attractions. Would be happy to stay there...

Returned to Venice again for the Carnival, and stayed at the Alla Vite Dorata for the first time, and with friends who occupied two other (double) rooms. It's conveniently located, only being a few minutes walk from Fondamenta Nove for the vaporetto (waterbus), and for shops and bars. The Rialto is only a few minutes walk too. It's a very...

It's a beautiful place in venice, located in a very nice area of Venice called Cannaregio, which is very well served with restaurants, shops, supermarkets, cinema... walking distance from Rialto, San Marco and the train station. The room where we stayed was new, cosy, well furnished and warm. Breakfast is great and the owner are extremely kind. Highly recommended, also...

This find is off the beaten path a bit but is perfect if you want a quiet somewhat secluded place that's in a neighborhood with real Venetian residents rather than in the middle of the tourist throngs streaming between the train station and Piazza San Marco. It's a pleasant 10-minute walk from the Fondamenta Nuove ferry stop which is the...

I have travelled through Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan and this was by far the best stay when all things are considered. Location is brilliant- smack in the middle of the Cannareggio sestiere(district) but in a winderful quite street and since its at the end of the street, u get amazing canal facing rooms. From the main santa lucia station,...

We stayed here from 2 - 4 December. I cannot say enough good things about it. We had a room with a canal view and it was beautiful and very clean. As it was our anniversary the owner left us a bottle of prosecco which was lovely. The hotel is within easy walking distance to all the great attractions. Breakfast...

We have just returned back from a weekend stay here to celebrate my birthday. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Fondementa Nove stop on the Alilaguna Lines transfers route. This takes about 30mins from the airport and is 25euros per person return. When we arrived at the hotel, we were shown to our room which was room...

Great location: not a long walk from most sites and easy access to the vaporetto stops. May be worth noting that the single room is perfect for a wheelchair user which is not common in many modern hotels. Lovely staff and breakfast was very pleasant. It is situated in a nice, quiet residential location that is an interesting place. Definitely...

We stayed 4 nights in a room with a beautiful quiet canal view, and this was our first B&B experience and we were absolutely thrilled with our experience. Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
