Hi, we have just returned from a weekend in Venice. We stayed at this hotel in the blue room (no 4) that overlooked the canal. We struggled to find the hotel when we arrived in Venice but reading the reviews I think ths was just us!!! It's quite central but a quiet location just 5-10 mins walk from Rialto &...

This was my favorite hotel of the 3 we stayed at in Italy. The location is a few minutes walk from the water bus, but its in a quite area where you can enjoy your stay. The hotel is very close to the water bus that goes to the Airport and the islands which was great the morning we had...

My mom, my sister and I stayed in the triple room and we loved our stay. Our room was comfortable, clean and gorgeous. The inn is absolutely beautiful, with views on a canal, a cozy dining room with an adjacent deck where you can sit and watch the boats go by. The breakfast buffet offers a nice selection, and we especially...

This was our second trip to Venice after our honeymoon there 26 years ago. We chose this hotel on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews and we have to say that we were certainly not disappointed. 'Hotel' is perhaps an overstatement when applied to this establishment, which should be considered more as a 'bed and breakfast' due to the very limited...

Booked this after personal recommendation and then reading reviews. Would echo comments re location - is in a quiet area next to a canal. It is good to avoid the crush of the tourist attractions to have a more peaceful place to go back to. It is less than a minutes walk to a co-op supermarket and there are loads...

Stayed 4 nights at the Alla Vite Dorata in Venice during Carnival time. A small hotel with only 6 rooms, but very comfortable. Tastefully decorated and very clean. Room had a view of the canal at the back of the hotel. Friendly and helpful owner. Good location with only short walks to major attractions. Would be happy to stay there...

Returned to Venice again for the Carnival, and stayed at the Alla Vite Dorata for the first time, and with friends who occupied two other (double) rooms. It's conveniently located, only being a few minutes walk from Fondamenta Nove for the vaporetto (waterbus), and for shops and bars. The Rialto is only a few minutes walk too. It's a very...

It's a beautiful place in venice, located in a very nice area of Venice called Cannaregio, which is very well served with restaurants, shops, supermarkets, cinema... walking distance from Rialto, San Marco and the train station. The room where we stayed was new, cosy, well furnished and warm. Breakfast is great and the owner are extremely kind. Highly recommended, also...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
