Got the chance to stay at this B&B with a group of friends. The owner come to pick us up at the train station (S. Lucia), and offer to carry a luggage for one of our many luggage. The location is a little bit far from main attraction, but the place was cozy enough. Being an Asian myself, the owner... More

It is in walking distance to the train station. It´s nice area and not as expensive as the San Marco. There is nice local night life at the next street. Restaurants and bars. It´s far to San Marco, but U can take water bus (approx. 20 min for 7 Euro one way) and get very nice ride through the canal... More

We would not stay again, but we can't complain for the most part. It did the job: we had a bed, bathroom and kitchen with breakfast & everything was mostly clean. It's downfalls were that it smelled really bad, the breakfast was very average (how can so much bread stay fresh stuffed into a cupboard for weeks?), the bed was... More

We stayed in a 3 person room here for one night. It was clean, comfortable and we had our own bathroom. We were also able to use the kitchen which meant we could save a bit of money instead of eating at the over priced restaurants on the island. The b&b is not in the touristy area but is still... We found Caterina house by accident and it proved to be a happy one. The hostel has 2 double rooms and has obviously changed hands since its last review. It is now run by a young Thai man. We were very happy there in a large, spotless room where the outside noise was minimal (difficult to find a quiet spot... More

Cheap price, but not recommend to stay. It's easy to smell mold in the house. And the showerhead with black mold, it's hard not to notice when you take a shower. And we always worry, we are not clean ourselves but make us more dirty. All of facilities in the house, I can't feel the owner want to keep running... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
