My wife and I stayed two nights in this very nice B&B. Easy to find and just a short 10 minute walk from the main train station. Antonio was a wonderful host with recommendations on dining, sites to see and great directions. The room was large with a nice terrace and very quiet for sleeping. Started each day with breakfast...

The location is very near the river bus station, and is around 5-10 mins walk from the main train station. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room is small, but is clean and tidy. The breakfast is good. For the price given, there is really nothing for us to complain about. Everything is great!

The Alle Guglie was in a great location, close to everything. The vaporetto was within walking distance. Tony, our host was helpful with maps and information on local restaurants. Thank you Tony for all your help in Venice, you made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was delicious! We would definitely come back to this B & B!

Antonio, the host, will go to great lengths to ensure that you have everything you need or would like to do, during your stay in chaotic Venice. Being a local, he advises you on the stuff that the locals do, and you feel attached to Venice, despite being only a visitor. He is deeply interested in art, and he can...

This is a good place to stay in Venice, convenient location with a great host who gave easy directions to find the place and tips on good places to eat. We would stay here again when in Venice. We visited in May and the mosquitoes were out so you may want to pack bug repellant when you go.

My partener and I stayed here for three nights the week following Easter 2013. This is nothing more or less than a large bedroom with it's own very adequate bath in Antonio's top floor apartment in a building at the end of a short, narrow, mysterious (in the way of Venice) calle in the Cannaregio neighborhood. While it is in...

For me, this was a very nice way to experience my first time in Venice. It is really close to the railway station and also very close to a stop of the airport boat. (Of course, getting lost is part of the charm of Venice, but you don't want to get lost on the way to your B&B on the...

We traveled in a group of four and made a reservation to stay at their 2 bedroom rooftop apartment. As the weather was tremendously hot during our visit, we were extremely relieved with the air conditioning upon entering our rooms. It not only cooled the whole living area, both bedrooms were splendidly cooling as well! Venice hotels are so much...

When we were looking for a place to stay in Venice for a couple of days, we were most interested in a great value for money, a place we could walk to/from easily, and a local feel. We were not disappointed when we booked with Antonio, as he was extremely helpful in helping us plan out our days, he truly...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

“There is quite a steep flight of steps to get into the apartment, but not unmanageable. If you do have heavy luggage you may battle a bit as the stairway is narrow, but trust me, once you there, you will feel right at home. If you can, stay there from a Monday to Thursday. It get INSANELY busy over the weekends. You can barely move in the town.”
