A Great Hotel in a great location. It is located very close to the bus station making it very easy to find upon arriving. We appreciated the quieter location away from the major tourist points, it meant you saw a part of Venice that perhaps we would otherwise of missed. If you are tired after a long day walking, it's...

The Al Sole was very convenient to the train station with good directions about how to get there on the hotel's website. Our room was very small but the hotel was 'quirky', on a canal and with a lovely courtyard. Breakfast was good and there were plenty of good eating places nearby. Note no free Wifi which seems unusual in...

Great place to stay with a spectacular view from the balcony of room 104 (ours) Funny how a little touch or two can just give that bit extra. Like a free safe, mini bar and bath mat, not that important maybe but great to relax after a hard days trekking around the many sites in a full on cool shower...

We stayed at La Sole for 2 nights after our cruise on the recommendation of trip advisor. It is an old hotel, very quaint, very clean, helpful staff speak English. Breakfast was included and had lots to choose from - eggs, fruit, juices, cereals, coffee, toast, etc. Room was compact but enough room for a 2 night stay. Modern bathroom....

The Al Sole is a 10 minute walk from the main bus station and waterbus stops and 15 mins from the train station. All attractions are easily reached either by transport or walking. Lovely hotel with lots of nooks and crannies and original features. Best was eating breakfast out in the garden every morning. Room was comfortable but not huge...

This is a nice place to stay . It is really clean and is located near a ton of shops and restaurants. It is not a 5 star but not far from it. The staff is very freindly and helpful. If you plan on coming to Italy plan on doing a lot of walking.

Hotel is in a very old building and convenient to the busy Piazza Roma. Once you cross the bridges at the piazza, the area is peacful and very safe feeling. Our room was small, but adequate and faced the canal so we could keep track of all types of traffic, even garbage and laundry boats below our window. Our room...

Very nice hotel in a quieter location. Staff very friendly & accommodating. Outside courtyard, which was very nice to have in Venice. 5 minutes walk from Grand Canal & main bus station. Went at beginning of April so was disappointed that the bar wasn't open in hotel as it was still classed as out of season & there wasn't enough...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
