Chose this hotel after good reviews on TA and we were not disappointed. we had suite 204, overlooking the square. It was a delightful room, with excellent bathroom. all very clean. We were expecially pleased to have small fridge and kettle and cups and saucers so we could make tea. Had one breakfast in room but preferred to go out...

The hotel is well placed. Very close to Rialto. It is a little difficult to find it out the first time, but after the first time it is really easy to get there. The video they have at youtube on how to reach it is very helpful =). The rooms are clean and big. The bathroom is also great. It...

We stayed at this hotel as it had very good reviews and was reasonably priced. Once we had found it which was not the easiest thing to do at around midnight we were told we were being upgraded from a classic room to a suite. The room was amazing with 2 balconies overlooking a small square where we enjoyed continental...

This was the perfect location for us: close to the tourist locations (Doge’s Palace, Rialto Bridge) and right in the heart of the city. Our room was clean, quiet, very nicely decorated, and with its original, historical wooden floor. As we chose the Anniversary package we received 3 red roses (real ones!) and an excellent bottle of Prosecco with delicious...

Avoid the crazy pricey hotels in Venice, you are already getting ripped off everywhere you go in the city! This hotel is great value for the price. I had a very large room and great bathroom. The hotel is difficult to get to, make sure you watch the video or have the porter (down at the river) help you get...

Although this hotel is a bit hard to find, we liked it. The room was nice with very tasteful decor. The staff were pleasant. Both Rialto and San Marco are quite accessible. It is a good base for exploring the more touristy parts of Venice, without sleeping in them.

I was lucky to find this hotel at Expedia for a relatively reasonable price ($190 per night in April 2011). Location was great - 5 min from Rialto Bridge and 10 min from San Marco square; room was very big and cozy - rarity for Europe and center of Venice especially. The best part was that we felt the history...

Found this hotel to be in a great location for seeing everything in Venice. My husband has a great sense of direction so maybe this helped us as I am useless but the you tube clip is very helpful. I made notes of what to look out for, I think we took one wrong turning but no big problems. We...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
