This hotel is really expensive for what it offers. The room is really small and it is not even possible to open the luggage properly. Bathroom is really small too. Hotel seems clean, although bed linen and furniture seem old. Breakfast is really poor and does not offer many options to the guests. Service is ordinary. Localization is the best...

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel ai due Principi for three nights before boarding our cruise ship last year. We had started the day out early in Kos, Greece and made two plane changes and took the water taxi to get to Venice. Unfortunately, our flight from Rome was delayed and we arrived just after sunset. Of course,...

The Hotel Ai Due Principi is located on a small canal not accessable by water taxi. The drop off point is approx 100 meters away and you must carry your luggage over one of the canal bridges. It is very well located for those wishing to wander the streets as it is a very short walk to St Marcs square...

Situated a stones throw away from San Marco and the Grand Canal, the Ai due Principi is a little gem nicely tucked away from the bustle of central Venice but close enough to be within the heart of all the action within seconds. We (my wife and 11 year old daughter) stayed for 3 nights (August 2012) and were impressed...

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and found it to be perfect in terms of location, price and quality. Situated 5 minutes walk from the water front where the Vaporetto and airport boat stop is located, next to a quiet but picturesque canal yet only ten minutes walk to the madness of San Marco....

my husband and i stayed at the hotel ai due principi for 3 nights. The hotel was exactly what we were hoping for..far enough away from the crowds yet conveinent to all the major sights. Wonderful breakfast each morning, spotless and well appointed room, fantastic bathroom, comfy bed. All in all it was a lovely stay in beautiful Venice.

My family recently stayed at the hotel, and while the room was fairly nice and the location great, the service was very poor for such an expensive hotel. We needed help from the front desk with several items, and found them consistently to be of no help at all, and very lazy. Even though most of the guests at the...

We had booked our honeymoon at the Due Principe. When we had to cancel our stay there due to an unforeseen family event, we called the hotel (we had no access to a computer). After a little bit of back and forth, we were told that everything was ok, no problem. One day later, once we had access to a...

We stayed at this Hotel in early May for 8 days and found it to be very enjoyable. The breakfasts had a good choice of various cereals and continental type breakfast foods. Our room was just perfect and the bathroom was the largest I have ever seen before in Italy - a double shower no less !!! I found the...

I am a very seasoned traveler and have never before posted anything negative about a hotel. My recent experience at Hotel ai due Principi in Venice, however, caused me to do so. I agreed to pay almost $200 per night more for a room that was advertised as having a canal view (my rate with taxes was some $540 per...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
