Whilst searching for accommodation in Milan during the current (post lockdown) period, the Lancaster stands out because of the precautionary measures and protocols the owners have put in place to maintain customer safety! The hotel website is very clear and unambiguous. When you arrive these precautions and procedures are explained....they have put in place a very pragmatic combination of common sense and legal requirements.

The hotel was quiet due to the limited number of tourists currently travelling, breakfast service was well organised (social distancing and masks at the buffet) and provided a good selection of typical European, Italian, Continental and the usual Cereal and Fruit dishes.

The hotel is managed by a very warm and welcoming family team, it is spotlessly clean and our room was serviced daily with bedding, towels etc changed as necessary. Give the chain hotels and the big corporates a miss for a change....the Lancaster is well located, provides a personal welcome and is very good value.

We booked direct with the Lancaster and received a 10% discount with breakfast included. We did some research before our stay and this was the most economic way to stay by a margin. The hotel is a short walk from Cadorna (malpensa express) or a 20 minute tram journey (#10) from Centrale (We flew Edinburgh to Bergamo and paid €8 each for the Terravision transfer bus to Centrale Station).

Finally, Would we stay again?, Yes we will! We have return visits planned in the next year, we will be staying in the Lancaster....so let’s keep this secret to us Ok, please don’t tell everyone how good this place is as we may struggle to get a room!

One of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in a long time, courteous and genuinely friendly stuff who go out of their way to make your stay very comfortable. My husband forgot a tie and on arrival asked if he could borrow one, the next morning he was presented with a beautiful hand-made silk tie, Dolce & Gabbana non-the-less, only in Italy!

The rooms are spacious and overlooking a quiet courtyard you can hear a pin drop. They get cleaned daily and are supplied with copious amounts of towels and sheets, all crispy white.

The location of the hotel is unbeatable, check the map, but if you have not booked it yet, you are missing on a good deal.

We had a very nice stay at Lancaster Hotel. They were always making a lot of effort to fulfill all the guests' needs.
Also, they did their best to guarantee safety for everyone and strictly followed the Covid-19 rules.
For breakfast all the standard options were offered.
Our room was small, but very clean.
The location of the hotel is situated very close to the city centre (15 min walk) so we have never used public means of transport.
Parking is possible for 25€ a day at a guarded car park, 10 a minutes walk from the hotel.
Highly recommend!

Stayed here for 3 nights on a break to Rome. Hotel is quite small but spotless and very Covid compliant so we felt very safe. Only a 3 or 4 minute walk from the Peace Arch are where there lots of restaurants and bars. Hotel is well served by transport links with 2 tram lines nearby that can take you all over a Milan.

The staff in the hotel were super friendly and helpful, can highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Milan

Stayed here for 3 nights in August 2020. Hotel is small but very clean and tidy with good safety procedures (important in these times!) and we felt very safe there. Location is a few minutes walk from the Peace Arch and 2 tram lines go very near the hotel which will take you anywhere in the city. All the staff were very friendly and we would certainly stay there again if we return to Milan - highly recommended

In Milan, where hotels are absurdly expensive, this place is the exception.
However you do get what you pay for:
This hotel is not refined, rather dated (60s style), but it is decent, affordable and the neighborhood is nice. (Mind you, if you are electro sensitive, there is a Huge radio transmitter for RAI a few blocks away).
Our superior room was functional, not roomy but the Queen size mattress was firm and good. Bathroom was tiny but decent (would have been nice to have a glass). Noise insulation was just OK, as you can hear at times your neighbor's bathroom.
What we did find bothersome (as we like to sleep in darkness), is the tiny but strong green light placed on the ceiling near the entrance closet, and very visible from the bed.
Breakfast was dissapointing, not in terms of food, but because the buffet is selfserve, which is very unhygienic in our Covid times ( most hotels nowadays have buffets manned by a waiter). Here clients help themselves to everything, and the fact that only one person at a time can do it, doesn't make it more hygienic. We also noticed that tablecloths were not changed automatically between clients by the irascible older man who directs the operation in a quasi military way (it would be better and more sanitary to skip the tablecloths and spray the tables after each use).
Reception is staffed by a nice and helpful gentleman in the evening.
All in all, this modest hotel is efficient and decent, but certainly not extraordinary as raving reviews would let you imagine. Just keep your expectations low and you won't be dissapointed.
Parking is very difficult in Milan, but you can park in the street in blue marked spots on Via Andrea Massena, 2 blocks away (free from 7pm to 9pm, I believe)
Do not miss La Scala, but make sure to reserve way ahead of time!

Room Tip: Rooms giving on the street have tiny balconies, and are a bit noisy at rush hour. Not a problem...

Response from Filippo Bua, Proprietario at Lancaster Hotel
Responded 1 Nov 2021
Dear Ms. ginsengNewYork, first of all thank you for staying at the Lancaster Hotel and for your review. I generally respect all opinions and avoid responding to all kind guests who honor us with their presence and reviews, regardless of their content. In this case, considering your large production of reviews (over 1000) that suggests an emulation of Marco Porcio Catone of the modern era, I do not allow myself to contradict you. I would therefore like to clarify only one aspect: it was me (the owner of the hotel) that "irascible gentleman who directs operations in an almost military way" but this happens to me when some guests, like you, DO NOT respect the anti-COVID rules that we follow, according to the protocols approved in Italy. Please note that compliance with these protocols has led, nowadays, the whole of Italy to a situation of good security, and what we must do (and will continue to do) is to guarantee safety to all of our guests, even at the cost of looking rude. The rest is poetry, like the life that we love. My best regards. Filippo Bua

The hotel is in an historic building, but the bathroom was large with modern fixtures, the room was well furnished, and there were plenty of power outlets and USB charging ports. The hotel was conveniently located walking distance from wonderful restaurants, Milan’s central Sempione Park, and the Duomo and shopping areas. The host offered several very helpful tips and suggestions when we checked in that really enhanced our short stay in Milan as part of our larger Italian vacation. The breakfast was everything one would expect from a lovely European breakfast. This was the best of 6 very nice properties we stayed at during our vacation.

Stayed here for 4 nights in January with a friend. The best part of our visit was the friendliness of the staff. They allowed early check-in, gave us water, brought all of our bags upstairs, and called us a taxi the last day. The breakfast every morning was actually good and the staff was always friendly and offered advice on what we were going to do each day. The hotel itself is very comfortable and basic, has all of the amenities you need in a short trip (soap, hair dryer, safe, many plugs). The location of the hotel was in a very residential area. We walked each day to the Duomo area and our sight seeing, which was only 20-25 minutes. At the end of the night, we decided to uber home since it gets very dark and cold, but the area around the hotel felt very safe. Overall, I highly recommend Lancaster for a short stay in Milan!

This is a lovely 3 star hotel, location is good, about 30-40 minutes gentle stroll through the park to the main city centre. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and there are many restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.
The self service buffet breakfast has a good selection of food and drinks.
The nearest Metro station is about a 10 to 15 minute walk away giving access to the rest of Milan
