I'm not sure how my friend found this place; it's high in the hills about an hour's drive from Genoa but well worth the detour or as part of a trip around the region. Completely unspoilt and in a beautiful village which is virtually deserted in the Winter but in the Summer is filled with Italians who have come to escape the city heat. Dinner was delicious and cooked by the friendly and welcoming owners. Many of the villagers were eating there too. There was no menu, just a succession of wonderful dishes and local wine at a set and very reasonable price. The owner speaks some English which was handy. The room was very comfortable and although the bathroom is not an en-suite, it's just next door. It summed up traditional Italy at it's very best. More

I traveled last year to Genova and I stayed one night in the beautiful town Pentema, because one of my friend's ancestors was born there.
It was a total discovery, although I don't have any root in that place, I was completely amazed by the spectacular views of the mountains, the good conservation of the medieval town, and the isolation and peace that the town has.
Locanda al Pettirosso is the only accommodation (and restaurant) of the town, which is an excelent place to stay, eating there is a great opportunity to taste the real Italian homemade cuisine, its owners are extremely friendly and makes you feel like a member of the family. The bedroom is confortable and very clean.
I totally recommend the experience to people who want to disconnect from the urban life and go back to the rural past of the small towns of Italy.
