I discovered the place through Rick Steve's and Tripadvisor. The booking was simple enough. BEWARE, it is a very long climb up many steep stairs to get to the rooms. They did not help carry up the luggage. So if you have lots of luggage or kids who frequent the rooms, this may not be for you. You check in... More

Rick Steve's suggestion on this hotel is not the best. The staff which I believe are the owners are SUPER unfriendly, acting as if you are bothering them by staying at the hotel. If you are looking for luxury this is NOT the hotel for you. The steps to the rooms are a good work out and part of the... More

As said before, if you are going to the Cinque Terra for fine lodging, you will be disappointed. If you want to mix in with locals and other travelers, this is the place to go. The feeling is cozy and relaxed. Not much else to do other than hike, swim, eat drink and chat. Absolutely enjoyed it all. The Gianni... More

Gianni Franzi offers not only good food in it`s Trattoria (restaurant), but also some rooms that are very close to the beach in Vernazza. Location is great, just be aware of the steps you`ll find on your way to the room (if you've been to the top of the Notre Dame church in Paris or the Christ Statue in Rio,... More

Vernazza is a small, hilly town. All of the buildings are built on these hills. Gianni Franzi has a number of steps to get to the rooms. Heavy suitcases will wear you out here. That being said, we had a great time staying here. You get used to the steps and the rooms are small but clean. We had a... More

As a group of six traveling (including two small children) it was important to us to have rooms booked prior to our arrival, so that we didn't have to worry about finding or not finding private rooms to rent. Gianni Franzi is a great solution for that. The rooms are small, but clean, and the "service" from the front desk... More

My wifeand I stayed at Trattoria Gianni Franzi for three nights. Vernazza is a good location. The "hotel" is O.K., but I would not stay there again. I like quaint alleys and old steps, but there were 117 steps from the town square to our room. But that's O.K. My biggest complaint is that the proprietors of this pension have... More

This is a nice place to stay (that isn't too expensive) in Vernazza. But don't expect the amenities that a hotel would provide (porters, room service, glitz and glam, etc)--you simply won't find that in Vernazza. We had a very small, but clean and comfortable double-bed room that required many, many, many steps through a couple alleyways to get to.... More

This hotel had some definite pros and cons, but overall was a good value for the price of the room. The pros - a nice view from our room, a private bathroom (you need to request it, it's slightly more expensive) and most of all, a room that was not right on the main harbor square which made it substantially... We stayed here in May 2008. We had a double room, with a private bath and a view. Our room was actually not up many stairs and I thought it was a guest room for the owners but maybe not. The room also had an oven, sink and small kitchen area which we did not use. The room was clean... More
