The Grand Hotel Majestic "già Baglioni", the oldest and most prestigious hotel in Bologna, sits in the heart of the city on Via dell’Indipendenza, within walking distance of Piazza Maggiore and the famous Due Torri. This superb five-star deluxe hotel is situated in a Palazzo designed by architect Alfonso Torregiani during the first half of the 18th century and built by order of Cardinal Prospero Lambertini, who later became Pope. The palazzo is in fact, built on top of an ancient Roman road, part of which can be seen within the hotel. The 109 rooms have a mix of antique furniture with modern amenities, a perfect blend of classic Italian style, elegance and hospitality. The 4th floor refurbishment has enriched the hotel with a new range of Junior Suites and Deluxe Room. The style in this case is classic eighteen century classical French.

We stayed five nights at this beautiful hotel in Bologna. The service was outstanding during our entire stay - from the reception desk to housekeeping, all of our requests were quickly satisfied. The hotel is traditional, centrally located, and the beds are supremely comfortable. It appeared to us that this hotel hasn’t missed a beat because of Covid. The entire staff was professional and efficient. The concierge staff has a vast knowledge of restaurants in Bologna. We let them know our preferences, and they reserved a different restaurant for us each evening.

The hotel location is fabulous for being in the center of Milan. Our Staff experience was exceptional from the moment we arrived until we departed. Everyone made an effort to make us feel welcome and accommodated us in every way. The hotel truly is Majestic! I had requested cotton sheets and a bed topper to ensure our comfort. Normal sheeting is linen. I was expecting soft cotton sheeting but being the upscale hotel it is, the sheeting was not only ironed (which I love) but felt starched, which was a bit uncomfortable. Pillows were soft and lovely. Bathrooms are stunningly white and bright boasting both a large soaking tub and separate stall shower. Towels and robes were lovely. I didn’t love the wall coverings which felt to me as if I was in a Sforza Palace. Just not my taste. The furnishings were ironically similar to furnishings I purchased for my own home 30 years ago. All lovely antiques but again, just not my style anymore. Buffet breakfast was stunningly beautiful and delicious! A real delightful way to start my day! There is a super market across the street where we got little treats and had a quick meal at the bistro one evening after a very long day sightseeing. Gelato shop next door was ok, not WOW. All in all I have no fault with anything at the Majestic but I probably wouldn’t book there again on another stay in Milan.

Overall, a very disappointing experience. Generally confused, or indifferent service - slow, inconsistent and not up to the mark; an outdated hotel both in terms of approach and facilities. Not at all value for money.

As the "top" luxury hotel in Bologna we expected much better service: 1. All recommendations by the staff were mediocre at best both for restaurants and for activities. 2. We sat for 15 minutes at the hotel bar, but were not able to get service. 3. Most importantly. 24 hours before we needed we asked the hotel to book a taxi for us to the airport at 04:00. At 0400 they told us that in 5 minutes the taxi will arrive. Then they said that the agency has no taxis, then they tried another agency. In the end we got some hotel bus which took us 30 minutes late to the airport. The hotel didn't even have the decency to pay for the ride and we paid the driver. We literally made the flight at the last minute.

Dear Guest, thanks for choosing our Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni” during your last stay in Bologna and for the time spent reviewing your recent experience on our Tripadvisor webpage. We are glad to read the beautiful historical rooms of our property have positively impressed you. On the other hand, we regret about your words concerning the service of our staff, who always receives a lot of appreciation comments, as you can see from other Tripadvisor members’ reviews. Therefore, please allow me to clarify some points. As far as the restaurant recommendations given by our concierge staff, I took the investigation further. On the 17th of April, Easter day, you requested to eat in a Japanese restaurant. As the Japanese restaurant that we usually recommend and that is always highly appreciated by our esteemed Guests was closed due to Easter holidays, we suggested you another one, that we knew little about, since Asiatic food is not very requested by our Guests when in Bologna. Obviously, we regret reading that it hasn’t completely met your expectations. Regarding your comment about the staff of our Cafè Marinetti, who made you wait to be served, we want to apologize you personally if this had unlikely spoiled your stay here with us and assure you that you can take this as an isolated case. Easter day was a very busy day at our Cafè, as usually happens during festive days. With reference to your words about the taxi ride, I would like to explain you what happened. Right after your request, our concierge staff booked you a taxi for the check-out time you required, that is to say at 4 am. While you were checking-out at 4 am, the taxi should have arrived within 5-10 minutes, as the taxi company communicated us beforehand during the booking and precisely as our concierge staff told you that morning. Unfortunately, right after our concierge staff told you that, the taxi company informed us that, despite our reservation, they hadn’t taxis to send us. Therefore, as you could imagine, it was something that did not depend on us. It was an inefficiency by the taxi company, towards which we are now taking measures. In order to solve the problem, our concierge staff promptly called a private driver, who came as quickly as possible considering the time of day and the sudden call. Given the unexpected situation, our staff was still proactive and did everything in their power in order for you not to miss your flight. Hoping that these further explanations clarified the issues you reported us, we look forward to welcoming you once again here in Bologna at our Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni”, to demonstrate our real 5 star luxury value. Kindest Regards, Tiberio Biondi General Manager Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni”
