I stayed there for 2 nights with friends, we had booked online. The staff were friendly and they were very helpful with our questions. The location was good. The rooms were spacious and clean. Overall, would repeat it again.

This was a wonderful little set of rooms in an Art Deco building located conveniently between the main train station and the colosseum. Our plane was delayed but Miss Judy stayed late for us and gave us a wonderful welcome after a long, stressful trip. The rooms have recently been redone and were clean and comfortable. One note, the elevator...

We found this little gem on our recent visit to Rome. It has a lovely ambience and serves a decent pint of Guinness (so says the hubby). After eating pizza and pasta, which was lovely, for the first couple of days, it was great to be able to order chicken and Italian style potatoes(which were totally gluten free) and an...

We were received by Judy, a friendly lady who explained the workings of the place to us, the automatic doors etc. The room was very nice and clean, definitely spacious enough for the two of us. Although it was on the street side, and Via Merulana not the quitetest of roads, the noise was kept to a minimum by the...

The place is great. Very friendly people treated us as friends not as customers. They gave us very good recommendations the whole time and tried to make our stay as joyful as possible. The rooms are very clean and well furnished very tasty coffee and biscuits daily. The location is easy to reach 5-10 min walk to the coliseum. Sure...

Hi wife and I spent 5 nights in this guesthouse. We walked there from the Termini Station and found it easily (looked for the small pink sign). The lift on the way up to level 3 was interesting though it gave us no hassles during our stay. Judy greeted us and was pleasant to deal with the entire time. The...

My daughter had booked our trip to Italy and had chosen all B&Bs for our 2 week stay. I was a bit worried but for no reason at all. The Merulana Inn was perfect for us. We had our own bathroom (just a little downside though, it only had half a door and every shower flooded the bathroom floor), didn't...

This is an unusual spot, as it's not a hotel, but a residence that takes up only one floor of the building it's in. Note that there are a handful of steps once you're in the ground floor main door, so I'm not sure this place is accessible. The rooms are attractive, very clean and the bathrooms are excellent, apart...

Firstly, this place is in a great location! Walking distance from the train station, major attractions, supermarket and hop-on-hop-off bus stop. However, I didn't realise when I booked that it is a guest house. Yes, I checked the reviews but it still wasn't clear. We arrived at approx. 3:30pm after having difficulty finding the place as there is only a...

Pros - Great location (10min walk from Termini) and close to the underground - Good room, fairly modern and clean, free internet. - Well priced Cons - Shower would go from cold/warm to scalding hot without warning. Was like this for the whole stay. Major drawback. - Breakfast pretty terrible and very limited. Coffee was undrinkable. Didn't bother with breakfast...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
