The warmth of the reception by Alberto was our first impression of this perfectly located hotel directly opposite an ancient ruin! It is discreetly located through an iron gate after two small flights of steps inside a larger block above a super cafe / pizzeria . Fear not , the property is double glazed with air con - as soon as the windows shut , the hustle and bustle of busy Rome disappears and you can relax in your quirky boutique style bedroom , enjoy a foot spa, foot massage and the contents of a well stocked fridge ( daily) . I would bring some proper cutlery - Rome is big on disposables! You are perfectly situated for all the main attractions, St Peter’s is a taxi trip in the tropical heat - I imagine it’s comfortably walkable in the winter months . In three full days we managed to see, in order; the pantheon , behind it ( and more stunning IMHO) the church of Santa Maria and the Martyrs , Trevi ( evening) Piazza Navona - (yes the berninis are scaffolded but it’s still wonderful) Vatican Museums ( use their official site to book)Museum Capitoline ( overlooked - AMAZING museums) - you can view The Forum from the terrace here and lunch in their rooftop - it’s excellent. Colosseum- we walked around it and saw so much more history on the less busy side - circus massimus etc - it’s always rammed so prepare with trainers and water ! We prebooked (via opera guide.com )The three Tenors at St Paul’s in the walls church - magic!- The best advice we were given by the wonderful Annette( day time reception) was to head to St.Peters at 7.30 am if not part of a planned tour group ( our idea of pain) we got there for 8 am and queued only for 15 mins before we were inside - when we came out many hours later , the square had a queue running the whole length down so it’s REALLY worth an earlier rise …our final evening (having tried Campo de fiori and Via Nazionale) for dining was spent in Trastevere - lively , buzzing , full of trattorias - by far our favourite eatery - there was live music on the connecting bridge which added to the party vibe of this area in Rome . The restaurant just below the hotel is also worth a try - super friendly!Try Chiostro del Bramante for something different- the modern art exhibition and quirky cafe was refreshing after the full biblical narrative immersion - wandering off the beaten paths allows you to discover less travelled monuments and basilicas which are quieter and more contemplative - there is time to reset and breathe in Rome if you take time to wander ….. Thankyou Annette & Alberto - you completed our fantastic experience in Rome

We have just returned from staying 5 nights at Hotel Barrett in Rome, and can absolutely recommed this lovely little hotel as a place to stay. Right from when I made the booking they could not have been more friendly & helpful, also checking in with me by email a couple of days before our booking to get an approximate arrival time. We were booked into room 8, which diectly overlooks the Area Sacra on Torre Argentina. The room is fairly small, but very comfortable and has absolutely everything that you need. We slept amazingly well throughout our stay. Breakfast & coffees (Lavazza machine) are all in the room, with an unbelievable well stock fridge, that is topped up daily. The flexibilty of this worked really well for us and meant that you could make yourself a perfect coffee whenever suits. The is a generous supply of soaps, shampoos & shower gels and every type of vanity kit that you can think of and used towels are replaced daily. There was also a bottle of wine, fresh fruit and biscuits in the room upon arrival. Also, it must be mentioned that there is a Homedics Siatsu back massager and Foot massager (and a Foot Spa for tired feet) in the room. I made good use of both the massagers and they certainly made a difference after days doing a lot of walking. Having said that, the hotel is superbly positioned for travelling in all directions throughout Rome, with buses and trams stopping just outside. It is also just a short walk to Trastavere from the hotel. This was our first trip back to Rome in over 4 years, so we had a lovely mix of revisiting old favourites and heding out in new directions and the location was perfect for this. If you are ever wanting an evening with zero travel, there are plenty of excellent places literally on the doorstep. Above all of this, however, was the friendliness of everybody at the hotel. There is a buzzer system if the gates / doors are closed (which is usually only later in the evenings) and this worked perfectly well and gave no level of inconvenience at all. We were always greeted with a smile and friendly chat. I hope that I have done justice to the hospitality and the lovely stay that we have just returned from. We absolutely hope to return.

The location is wonderful; all the classic sights are easily accessible on foot and there are also many bus connections or the tram right outside the door. Our room had a great view over the square, it was comfortable, cool, always clean with fresh linen every day and it had everything you need. Largo di Torre Argentina is very busy but the room was really quiet thanks to well-insulated windows. The decor is wonderfully kitsch and well done. The people are always friendly and very helpful if you need anything. There is an endless supply of espresso and snacks in the room but if you want your coffee and fresh cornettos from the professional barista early in the morning, then I recommend the Cafffè Camerino just around the corner.

It's one of my favourite hotels ever, I have now stayed twice, and the hotel is in the PERFECT location. It is in the very heart of Rome, everything is so walkable, it is close to the tourist hop on hop off buses too, the stunning temples of the largo di torre Argentina is the most beautiful view from the rooms. There are fabulous hotels nearby that serve the most amazing classic Italian food and cocktails. The pantheon is a 5-minute walk away, the coliseum is a 15-20 minute walk, the Vatican is a 25-minute walk. The hotel it's self is the most beautiful cluttered mishmash and I mean that in the BEST way, there is 4 flights of stairs which can be hard for the unfit or infirm, plus more steps inside depending of where your room is situated. The rooms are compact but pack a lot into their 4 walls. The beds are a standard double, but unfortunately, the only gripe I have with the beds is a lack of proper duvet covers. It's very inconvenient as in the morning you have 3 different coveres tangled around you. I would suggest investing in prover duvet covers. The rooms also pack in a lot of complimentary snacks and drinks literally whenever you luke, there is a toaster oven, coffee machine, milk warmer, AND a toaster for hot dogs which I thought was absolutely hilarious! It can feel a little over packed at times but it's really so quirky I love it, the bathrooms are interesting, the showers are great and the sinks are big, the toilets are a strange shape almost like a vase...? There are also European style bidets which again, are not really needed and just take up a lot of the limited space... the room comes set up with a massage machine attached to a comfy chair in the room, too, which after a long day of standing and walking was a really nice touch! The hotel was also a great price costing me arpund €530 for 3 nights including the mandatory €6 per person per night city tax, but it does state that you need to pay it on the booking sites. Overall, I had another really amazing stay and would not choose anywhere else to stay if I come back to rome again. It's a gem, one that I'm sure everyone will enjoy if they choose to stay. The staff are all so lovely and helpful, and the location is second to none! Everyone who heads to rome should be staying at Hotel Barrett!!!!

I suspect that we did not get one of the better rooms on our travels. Our room though beautiful felt very cramped. It was an also rather bizarre combination of old artifacts and a portable shower, foot rinsing tub which you would normally find in a manicure salon and a massage machine on a chair! Entrance to the hotel is somewhat problematic with several steps of staircases to navigate which would make it a trial for elders though the MOD was helpful with the suitcases. Entry from the outside of the property also requires intercom improvement. This being said, the hotel itself is incredibly unique with beautiful pieces of art and statues adorning the reception and bedroom. Never really seen anything like it! Whilst this was remarkable it felt a little claustrophobic. Upon arrival you are informed that the mini bar is free which is very well stocked full of ham and cheeses but does not make up for the fact that you literally have to eat on your bed for breakfast and that breakfast itself is not served. The location is obviously exceptional which justifies the price to a degree.

Very eccentric hotel which kinda freaked out my husband with all the artwork lol. I didnt show him the hotel when i booked. I on the other hand didnt mind all the artwork …i chose because of the amazing reviews i read in TA
Best feature: location… 2 small Blocks away from pantheon 10 min walk to piazza navona 30 min walk to vatican 30 min walk to coloseum.
You simply can not beat the location
Room was very clean…i am a germ freak and i wipe everything down with clorox the moment we arrive, my wipes stayed white after i cleaned.
Our room Was very quiet and dark with The shutters so our my 7 days in italy, i was only able to sleep in this hotel.
Room is supplied with coffee and all sort of snacks
If you have trouble with the stairs, this place is ot for you.
Other than that, this place is perfect and id stay here over and over again

Very good position in the center of Rome, near many monumental place. My room was clean but little, only 24h reception is the service of a tipical hotel..about all other it is a b&b. The breakfast is made by yourself in your room, minibar is full but all food is packaged food from supermarket. There isn't that attention to the customer that you would expect in a good quality Italian hotel

Something I truly appreciate about places isn't just the service they provide, but how they handle unexpected situations. The staff at Hotel Pensione Barrett made our stay in Rome truly magical despite a few initial hiccups. Despite the very thin walls and noisy room neighbors, they were kind enough to resolve the issue in the best possible way. Both Aneta and the other manager were wonderful to us, receiving packages for us and bringing us much joy. Moreover, the hotel is excellently located for tourism, and to top it off, they replenish the room with an endless supply of breakfast, dinner, and lunch items every day, all completely complimentary. An experience that will be hard to forget, and we hope to visit again soon.

Pros: Nice staff, great location in close proximity to many of the major sites our driver said this was one of the best locations you can be in) and the fully stocked mini fridge full of food (even some Prosecco and Peroni!) was appreciated. Beds were comfy and very unique decor used throughout the hotel! It's a hoot! Loved the included slippers and quality toiletries. Cons: Bc this is not your typical modern hotel, there is no elevator and there are about 5 flights of stairs to get to your room. They do have porters who help (thank God!). Could have used more direction on how to leave the gated entrance. The wifi names changed between morning and night and was confusing. Could have been better if they left a sheet of detailed instructions in the room. There was also a pervasive nasty smell from the bathroom (like festering urine). I've noticed this in other European hotel bathrooms. It's likely to do with their old plumbing - but it bothered me :/

Fantastic hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Hotel centrally located so could walk to all sights within 30mins Rooms have quirky décor which adds to the atmosphere Room well stocked and fridge had large selection of food to make breakfasts and take snacks for lunches, coffee machine and mini oven in room also. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again Several steps up to hotel which could be an issue if guests have mobility difficulties but the only negative comment.

Hi! So the hotel is based within an apartment block as such, you buzz into the main entrance then up some stairs to the main hotel door. In the evening the main gate outside (on the street) is closed so you have to buzz in there too. Very safe and secure and in the perfect location.
There are more places to choose from in the Rome area.
