Can't really comment on the physical qualities of the San Marco, as when we arrived, a young lady at reception with poor English, managed to get the message through that they had no room for us, [despite a booking made months prior], and we were shunted off to another Hotel -- as has happened to others. Just before borading the...

This hotel is okay for a base and is very centrally located a short walk from Termini Train Terminal. It is quite a noisy area but we didn't have too much touble sleeping. The breakfast selection was average.

We found Hotel San Marco to be a great, value hotel. The staff was informative and accomodating. The location was extremely convenient and we were able to walk to virtually all of the sights in Rome. This small hotel was exactly what I expected based on their website, online reviews and room rates. I would definately recommend and stay again...

Pros: - location - in the city centre, only few steps from Castro Pretorio metro station; - free Wi-Fi. Cons: - very small room with small windows. We were unlucky to have a patio view room. The patio is like a well and there is a feeling that no daylight comes inside the room. - limited breakfast (not enough before...

Some reviews claim you get what you pay for well beware because with this hotel that's not always the case. We paid to stay here and, like a few previous reviews, on arrival we were told to move to a different hotel. After an initial greeting we were ignored for some time by several hotel staff before we were given...

Bare bones, but you get what you pay for in Rome. This is a fantastic location, just off the spanish steps and the room was clean and the room was a decent size. Everything in the room was funtional and they had a nice terrace to sit outside and drink wine. No thrills but a very safe bet if you...

Before booking our hotel in Rome we spent hours on the internet going through all the hotel on various websites and in the end booked Hotel San Marco due to its location (which is less than a 5 minute walk from the train station) and the price. We weren't particularly expecting much from the hotel with the price of it...

We booked online with this hotel based on the information they provide on their website. When we checked in, a non English speaking lady escorted us to our room which turned out to be kn the 5th floor of an apartment block around the corner from the hotel on a different street! They told us to return to the San...

They cancelled our initial stay as they were having a water problem. But they arranged for, and paid for a replacement hotel and the cab to get us there. The replacement was a 4 star. On our return to Rome, a week later, they provided excellent accomodations. Although San Marco is billed as a 3-star, it was superior to the...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
