The location couldn't be better: a quiet street in otherwise bustling Trastevere, perfect for those who want to know Rome on foot! Host Marco made everything to ensure we felt at home, from booking an airport transfer to giving great tips on some of the best – but not necessarily best-known – nearby restaurants and attractions. The Ghetto is literally...

Pleasant and comfortable B&B. Great location - convenient to restaurants, sites, transportation - right near the river. Charming antique-type furnishings. Comfortable beds. Friendly and very helpful host who has a cute little dog. Delicious breakfast in a lovely dining room. We had an excellent stay - we really liked this place very much.

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid February and really enjoyed ourselves. What makes this B&B great is the location and the hosts. Marco was very pleasant, helpful and charming and was more than happy to give advice and to book restaurants. The room itself was quite basic but a good size and with the bonus of a small...

Located on a small street in the quiet part of Trastevere, this wonderful guest house made our visit to Rome exceptional. Host Marco sent us to museums not in the guidebooks, restaurants with fabulous, not expensive food--and where he made reservations, and even to an unusual mass at a church where his cousin is the priest. The room was very...

We had a lovely stay at the Residenza Arco dei Tolomei, a beautiful charming house in a great location. The rooms are clean and cozy and everything feels very homey. The perfect place to come back to after a long day in the city. Marco, Gianna and the staff (Joseline and her husband) are very welcoming and helpful with a...

We say can't give enough praise for the Residenza Arco dei Tolomei. The elegant and warm hosts, Marco and Gianna, their wonderful family, kind employees, not to mention sweet dog Rossa made our stay at their home (that has been in their family for over 200 years ) memorable. The rooms were very comfortable, the breakfasts delicious and the Trastevere...

We loved this place. Gianna and Marco are the most welcoming hosts one can imagine. The rooms are large and cosy, decorated nicely. Breakfast is great. Marco knows the best places to eat and visit for every taste. And we had the great pleasure to have our wedding ceremony here in the beautiful living/diing room.

Arco dei Tolomei is located in the best section of Trastevere, near nice restaurants and beautiful churches, near public transport and walking distance to many monuments and flea market on Sundays. But the best is the house, nicely decorated rooms, spacious and clean bathrooms and comfy beds. We stayed twice and tried two of the rooms, both fantastic. And in...

We very much enjoyed chatting with Marco about life in Rome, and the future of Venice, over coffee after the excellent breakfast. His suggestion of the Basilica of San Clemente was perfect. Stepping out onto the balcony of our room, we could see the ordinary life of Rome and imagine ourselves at home there.

Our room was very charming, and included a nice en-suite bathroom. The breakfasts were adequate and filling. The location is very convenient to Ancient Rome (a quarter-mile walk puts you at either the Circus Maximus or the Victor Emmanuel Monument, and its location in the Trastevere section gives it its own charm. The Trastevere is fun to walk around, and...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
