My family of three stayed at the Villa San Pio in June 2007. We had a triple room. The room was huge and very well appointed. Once we got our bearings the location was fantastic. The hotel is in a residential area of Rome situated among very expensive homes. However it is a short 10-15 minute walk to the Subway,...

Got a recommendation for this hotel from my mother. My daughter and I had a terrific experience. It is on the Aventine Hill in the middle of a lovely residential district. After spending the day in the hustle and bustle of Roma it is a welcome oasis of quiet. The first three nights we were in the main building and...

The Villa San Pio is a hidden retreat in this big city. We drove right to it and were pleased to find that it's in a calm region with very easy access to all of Rome's sites. We parked directly in front of the hotel, which was a surprising convenience, even though we elected to take taxis into the city...

My wife and I stayed here in April of 07'. The hotel was very nice the rooms were very good sized (even by American standards.) The bathroom was great. The room and hotel were very clean, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel was a nice ten to fifteen minute walk to the Collesium. We used the hop...

This is a lovely hotel within easy walking distance of the Circo Massimo. Walking distance to open top bus stops, bus stops and metro stations. A 20 minute walk will get you to the colosseo and in to Trastevere. Trastevere has many good value and excellent restaurants. We ate in Trastevere on all 3 nights of our stay. On our...

Reading such enthusiastic reviews for Villa San Pio on Trip Advisor made choosing our hotel in Rome a very easy task indeed. We stayed at the villa for six nights arriving Monday 28th May 2007. Whilst it was a good choice we did, unlike some other reviewers, have some issues with it. The trip didn’t get off to the best...

Spurred by a Financial Times Weekend article back in 2004 about the joys of staying on the Aventine Hill and confirmed by Trip Advisor Reviews, we booked the Hotel Villa San Pio (its sister property, the San Anselmo, was full). If noise, nightlife, the incessant roar of scooters, and a distinctly urban feel are your thing, this hotel is not...

A fantastic hotel in a nice relaxing part of Rome. Although it was a bit of a walk to get here, we didn't mind as it gave us chance to explore and see things we wouldn't have otherwise. The hotel was beautiful and all the staff, especially the waiters and porters, were helpful and polite. It was a perfect place...

This is an extremely charming romantic hotel, with a quaint lemon and orange garden, wonderful service and located in the tranquil green area of Aventino Rome, one of the 7 hills. It is within 5 minutes walking distance to Circo massimo (where there is a metro stop) and a 10 minute walking distance to palatino and colosseo. There is also...

You won't be sorry staying at this gorgeous hotel. It is located in Aventine Hill residential section. The grounds are beautifully lined with lemon and orange trees. We can't say enough about how helpful and friendly the staff was. Buffet breakfast was great too. Villa San Pio is away from the madness of downtown Rome but not far enough that...

Staying in Aventine

Neighbourhood Profile
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
