My family and I have just spent five very enjoyable days in Rome, Italy. We stayed at the Hotel Taormina which should be described as "brillant value for money"! This hotel is within walking distance of all the main attractions and five minutes walk from the Vittorio Emanuele underground station, plus ten minutes walk from the Termini main bus/train station....

I was a bit put off by reading the area reviews, but actually I have been to far worse areas so don't let the comments bother you. There were some homeless people in the area, but they were no bother and are to be pitied rather than feared. We arrived on 2nd August in 40 degree heat. The entrance is...

As many have said, the location isn't the best. It's in the Chinatown of Rome with a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum. But my partner and I didn't mind as it was a nice easy walk. When approaching the hotel you see a large sign above the hotel door, which doesn't look the best but sure helps! We checked...

We stayed there in July and the hotel, to be honest, was a bit disappointing. I thought it to be better to list all pros and cons, as there are quite a few. PROS - Location: it is only 5 minutes away (by foot) from the Vittorio Emanuele Metro station and a good 15 minutes away from Termini Railway Station...

We stayed here in late June for 5 nights....and based on some reviews were unsure of what we would find. We were pleasently surprised, our room was very large, spacious and new. Bathroom was also large. Our shower was only hand held, which was new and different, but fine! We made sure we had a room facing the inside couryard...

It is two stars and you can tell it. For the price it is OK. Although it has an old-feeling, the room and bathroom were clean. No AC. The fan on the ceiling did not work. Street noise can be a problem if you need to sleep with the window open. Breakfast consists of bread, croissants, jams, and a juice...

Visited Rome (2nd time) in March, 2012. I was a little leery about staying at a 2-star hotel, but this hotel was nicer than many 3-star hotels! Upon arrival, I was shoved into the "single traveler's room." Or as I call it, The Closet. I asked to be moved, and they kindly accommodated me. The new room was wonderful! No...

By the other reviewers comments of this hotel it seemed like a no brainer. Once we got off the train and started walking in the direction of the hotel I was hoping our hotel was out of the neighborhood we were in. Well to my dismay it was not, it was in what seemed to be chinatown in Rome. All...

Hotel Taormina – Rome We stayed here for three nights and really liked the hotel itself, it was clean, the room large and bathroom great. The staff was beyond friendly and was always polite coming and going. When we walked into the hotel we saw three flights of stairs (no lift) and about walked out as we had very heavy...

Me and my friend have stayed here for four nights in the beginning of May 2012. The hotel is clean, modern, with a very friendly and helpful staff. We had windows facing the courtyard, so it was quiet as well. It's a ten minute walk to Colosseum, two mnute walk to an amazing ice cream parlour and further minute away...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
