After reading numerous reviews from Trip Advisor on Hotel Santa Maria, we took the plunge and reserved a 9 day vacation. Every good thing we had read was exactly as it was reported to be. The staff were very cooperative and helpful. The Courtyard was the real Oasis allowing us to get away from the hustle and bustle of the...

The aroma of orange blossoms greeted us, and from there we were taken. The courtyard is so beautiful and relaxing, the location in Trastevere was quaint and near the activity of Santa Maria Piazza, but it was quiet when we were in the hotel. The aperitivi were such a nice touch after a long day of sightseeing, and we really...

We picked the Santa Maria because of reviews in Karen Brown and Travelocity. As many reviewers said the rooms are basic but very pleasing. Breakfast in the courtyard is great and it is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. It is a quiet and restful place in a great central location and great neighborhood...

This was the second time we stayed at Santa Maria. It's a truly wonderful hotel, that's quaint, has a great staff, and central location. We'll return again.

Great place to stay. The rooms are basic, but immaculately clean. There are no stairs which was great for my mom with a bad knee. The staff was friendly and was able to arrange for tours. The breakfast was nice. In a room off the courtyard, with internet and couches and bookcase of guidebooks. Would definitely stay here again.

The courtyard breakfast area is a joy and to come back in an evening after walking to all the sights of Rome and sit there with a bottle of Frascati was even better.Had the bar been open after 20.00 we would also like to have sat out after we had been to one of the many delightful restaurants within a...

It was so good to walk through the gates to Santa Maria again this year! I love this hotel. It is small and simple but such a relaxing haven. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean; reception is friendly and efficient. Breakfast offers a very wide choice of cereal, cold meats, eggs, fruits and pastries. The best part, for us,...

Could not have been more please with our time here! Such a lovely setting. After sightseeing all day it was so refreashing to come back to this lovely place. We were traveling with our daughter who loved running around the courtyard and smelling the flowers. The staff was amazing and we can not wait to return! I recommend anyone whoe...

We spent a wonderful 3 nights in a room great for our family of 5 at this gem of a hotel, tucked into the old part of Rome. The rumours of 'noisy neighbourhood' never materialized and the location was perfect- 30 min walk to everywhere. Riding the free bikes through Rome at night was a special treat. The staff were...

The hotel Santa Maria was a wonderful find. The location made it a convenient walk to many of the sights of Rome, and the Trastevere area has many wonderful local restaurants. Compared to two other hotels that we stayed in during our trip, the breakfast was certainly the best, with a good variety of choices. The beautiful courtyard was a...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
