We chose the Carmel because it offers a Kosher breakfast. While true, breakfast was disappointing and many days we gave it a miss, since, in any case, we preferred an early start. On the Sabbath they provide a hot platter and electric urn which were welcome. The rooms were adequate for people who do not intend spending much time in...

After taking train, trum and lots of walking, we found the place. No one seemed to know such a hotel exists even when we were a block away. It's very hard to see the hotel name. The lady at the desk asked for the full payment even before we got a chance to look at the room. First time in...

We wanted to stay in the Hotel itself but left our booking rather late and there was no space. We had tried other places as well but again, no space. Hotel Carmel offered us an 'apartment' room at the top of the hotel for 100 Euros per night which sounded like a bargain. We assumed it would be basic but...

Hotel Carmel was the first of five hotels that we stayed in whilst on our honeymoon in Italy. It was the least expensive pensione of our trip and exceeded our expectations. The map in Rome's Lonely Planet led us to believe that it was further out of Trestavere that it actually is - less than a two minute walk to...

This hotel offers clean rooms of various sizes. You may want to find out if you are on the street or in a back room. There is a room that opens onto the nice terrace that would probably be worth asking for. They have small refrigerators in each room but in one room it was not working. It's a good...

For a small "locanda", this is definitely a great hotel for the money. The rooms were quite nice and a little larger than the typical room in europe. The bathrooms looked recently renovated and worked well. The staff was always very helpful and nice and spoke english very well. The hotel also has a large garden-terrace overlooking the small and...

I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Carmel in May. It was pretty basic in it's accomomdation (it is a budget hotel), but clean. It has a beautiful flower filled terrace and ajoining sitting room. It's located on a beautiful tree lined street in Trastevere, and is very conveniently located to all the tourist attractions throughout Rome, while not...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
